2011_Christiane-Asselman

It is with great sadness that we have learned of the death of Christiane Assselman from Belgium.

Christiane was world famous for her warm welcome, her energy, her modesty and her sense of fun.

She was truly bitten by the hockey bug from an early age and umpiring in particular.

As and international umpire, she participated in three Olympic Games: Los Angeles 84 (where she whistled the women’s final), Seoul and Barcelona 88 92.

She officiated at three World Championships, four Champions Trophy and 20 European Championships (16 finals).

She received in 1990 the “International umpires FIH Golden Whistle” (more than 100 international matches).

She was a member of the Committee Female (80-81) and the Umpiring Committee (85-96 and 07-09) of ARBH.

Christiane was an example to us all. We send our sincere condolences to her family.
