24th February: The Pool A and B are complete and it is the teams of Netherlands, Spain, Germany and Ukraine that make it to the semi-final. The hosts Dundee Wanderers, Grodo, SV Armenin and the Swiss Rotweiss Wettingen will battle it out in the Pool C to see who stays in the Cup and who will be in the Trophy in 2019. 

Game 9: AH&BC Amsterdam v Rotweiss Wettingen

AH&BC went into this vital Pool B game with 10 points, Rotweiss 6. Amsterdam had the bulk of possession but both teams cancelled each other out in the first half as they employed half court to stifle each other’s attacks. A good save apiece from Walti and Lijding made sure the score was nil -nil at half time. For the majority of the second half , nothing happened as the stalemate continued, then suddenly everything happened. Aebi gave a delighted Rotweiss the lead in the 29th minute. However Amsterdam turned up the heat and De Baat and Geerlings scored within seconds of each other with 5 minutes left on the clock. Rotweiss pulled their keeper to go for the semi final qualifying spot. Amsterdam took advantage of the brave move and Albers scored again in the 38th minute to make it 3-1. Rotweiss had the only penalty corner of the game in the final seconds but Amsterdam defended it

Game 2: GHC Ritm Grodno v MSC Sumchanka

A place in the semi finals was at stake in this Pool B final game between these two fierce rivals. Stepanchenko in the Sumchanka goal  had a series of fine saves which proved vital as Sumchanka took the lead in the 17th minute through Shevchenko. This meant that as the teams went to the break Sumchanka were in that semi final spot. As the second half started it was suddenly 3-0 to Sumchanka as Ponomarenko and Honchenko struck in the 22nd and 23rd minutes. Grodno went all out to get back in the game putting on a kicking back but were again frustrated by Stepanchenko in the Sumchanka goal. When the hooter went for full time a delighted Sumchanka had qualified for the semi finals

Game 3: Pool SV Arminem v Club Campo de Madrid

Any two from three can go through in this tight pool. Madrid played a pressing game while Arminen were content to go half court and play on the break. Arminen had their outstanding keeper to thank for a clean sheet , but her amazing double save from point blank range which led to a penalty corner in the 15th minute was converted by Abajo Saenz De Tejada. Half time SV Arminem 0 Club Campo de Madrid 1.  Madrid continued to dominate the 2nd half possession and Nowicka continued to defy the Madrid forwards. Arminen made Madrid pay for their missed chances when Hannenkamp  scored from a penalty corner . Madrid continued to press for that vital winner but Nowicka was again defiant at penalty corner after penalty. However the drama reached fever pitch when Nowicka was yellow carded for persistently breaking the line at corners. There were only 25 seconds on the clock as Madrid finally made a corner count gaining a penalty stroke. Rebecca Grote took the stroke facing substitute keeper Gaider. She scored and Madrid took the lead 2-1. Arminen tried desperately to get the equaliser in the final 15 seconds. But it was Club Campo de Madrid who held out to go through to the semi finals.

Game 4: UHC Hamburg v Dundee Wanderers

In the final game of Pool A Wanderers are already in Pool C but  if UHC lose this one they’ll join them and SV Arminen will progress to the semi finals. UHC played a fast attacking game and restricted Wanderers to hitting on the break. Dow, once again , was outstanding in the Dundee goal, and Wanderers’ defence was excellent. However the pressure had to pay off and it did when Muller Wieland scored after 8 minutes. Otte added a second in the 16th minute. Otte hit two quick goals in the first and second minutes after half time to make it 4-0 to UHC. It was attack after attack by UHC and penalty corners followed but Dow was superb in the Dundee goal saving a penalty flick. UHC ran out 4 nil winners against a brave and improving Dundee side and go through to the semi finals as Pool A winners. Wanderers join SV Arminen in Pool C
