On the 24th May to the 2nd June two coaches from the UK (Simon and Danny) are travelling round Bulgaria for the Balkan Caravan 2014. The aims include leading coaching sessions for young players and assisting the development of coaching delivery at a local level. The caravan program originally planned a route through Serbia which, due to unfortunate floods in the country, had to be postponed.

The coaching teams journey began early on Saturday morning in Wakefield, UK. 9 Hrs later we were greeted at the airport by Antonio and Tanya (Bulgarian Hockey Federation). After an over night stay in student halls in Sofia we set off on a 6 Hr journey by car to the sea side resort of Albena.

Day 1: Monday 26th May

Early Monday morning we greeted the first participants of the Balkan Caravan for the first of two sessions. Ten Romanians mentored by two coaches and 35 Bulgarians from local clubs.

They participated in games that were aimed at improving core skills. Coaches were shown creative ideas on how to approach core skill development using games and alternative equipment.

During the lunch break each of the participants were presented with kit kindly donated by AH&BC, Holland.

In the second session of the day participants learnt more 3 dimensional skills, as well as a goal keeper workshop.

The group came on in leaps and bounds finishing the day with an 8 a-side match.

The coaching team now travel to Targovista for day 2 on the 27th.
