This weekend brought a lot of work from EHF. While the Competitions Committee Outdoor met in our office in Brussels, the Education and Development Projects Committees received a very warm welcome by Federaçao Portuguesa de Hoquei.

The weekend began on Friday evening (4th March) when the committees were treated to a welcome dinner in which they were able to sample a great variety of Portuguese cuisine! Saturday saw on a early start for the Education Committee which held its meeting first. Both committees were privileged to be invited to hold their meetings in the wonderful offices of the Comité Olímpico de Portugal, which kindly opened its doors to EHF.

The Committee first met together to discuss its progress and set an action plan for the rest of the day. Later on, the three working groups split up to work on their respective planning for the year.

Following the meeting, the committees attended the final of the ParaHockey Integration Tournament, which saw Portugal’s ParaHockey teams (both A and B), Benfica U15 and Casa Pia U15 come together to play, with the EHF Youth Panel assisting and umpiring at the event.

Early Sunday the Development Projects Committee met to discuss its actions for the year and vote on Club of the Year recipients for 2015. Stay tuned for an official announcement soon! Youth Panel Members Jamie Hooper and Leen Rycx were also in attendance and gave a presentation on their recruitment drive and plans moving forward.

Both Committees took time at the start of their meetings to hold a moment of silence to mark the recent passing of EHF and Scottish Hockey stalwart, Gerry Ralph. Gerry was a former Chair of the Development Projects committee and longtime member. His hockey colleagues and friends wanted to pay their respects and also celebrate him, and shared some Scottish shortbread in his honour.

EHF would like to thank FPH for their generosity and hospitality over the weekend, as well as the Portuguese Olympic Committee for opening its doors to us.
