26/07/2014: England dominated the first ten minutes of the game for the fourth place and forced thus several penalty corners against Belgium. The English were perfectly capable in passing the Belgian front and played largely on the field. They switched fast from one side to another, to finally find and use their player on the back line. After 20 minutes Belgium took a point after a successful pc played by Tom DEGROOTE.

Belgium could stop all English attacks and threatened with a counter, which couldn’t be finished positively. Just before the end of the first half, Belgium had a slight miscommunication in defense , but they managed to maintain their advantage and the first 35 minutes ended with 1-0 for Belgium.

In the second half, both teams had several opportunities which weren’t finished precisely enough. The Belgian goal keeper Arnaud FLAMAND stopped impressively all English penalty corners. He played a strong game today.

In the very last seconds of the game, Luke TAYLOR scored with the last penalty corner, thus ending the game in a draw. Shoot-outs had to define the winner , which caused a lot of extra stress to both teams. England missed only one shoot-out, while Belgium missed 2 opportunities, and so in the end England held their nerve to win the bronze medal.

Final score Belgium – England : 1-1 (1-0) (SO3-4)

ENG – 70 – TAYLOR Luke (PC) 1-1
