23.05.2015, Brussels: Day 2 at the EuroHockey Club Trophy in Dublin and the pools are shaping up for the Final games on Monday:

Atasport 3 (S Nazir, A Nadirov, V A Butt) Whitchurch 1 (P Wilkinson)

Atasport kept their interest in topping the table alive with a strong 3-1 win over Welsh side Whitchurch in the second game of day two of Pool A.

Shahzad Nasir got the Azeris up and running with a fine early goal in the sixth minute but they could not build on their upper hand in the first half and were caught on the hop when Philip Wilkinson smashed home a corner rebound to equalise.

Ali Nadirov restored the lead early in the second half, though, and Vaqas Ahmad Butt then fired in a drag-flick to make it 3-1. They did have to ride out a ten-minute reduction in numbers as Khalid Gozalov took a yellow card. Whitchurch could not close the gap, though, and Atasport added the win to yesterday’s draw.

Pool B: SK Slavia Praha 5 (J Kyndl 2, M Svaton, V Topek, D Vacek) SG Amsicora 2 (F Mureddu, G Carta)

SK Slavia Praha proved too good for SG Amsicora to record their first win of the competition, winning 5-2 with something to spare with Jakub Kyndl notching his third and fourth goals of the tournament on dat two of the competition.

Marek Svaton got them off the mark 20 minutes in before Vilem Topek deflected in a corner move for 2-0 just before half-time. Kyndl’s third goal extended the margin early in the second half.

Fabio Mureddu pulled one back from a penalty stroke but the win was complete when Kyndl shot home another corner and David Vacek scored from another set piece. Giaime Carta got a consolation for the Italians with three minutes remaining.

Vinnitsa 2 (A Koshelenko 2) SC Stroitel Brest 2 (A Ozerskyi 2)

A last minute goal from Andrii Koshelenko saw OKS SHVSM Vinnitsa snatch a draw to get off the mark in Pool B, denying Stroitel Brest a second successive victory.

He had initially given the Ukraine side the lead as half-time closed in, firing home his third of the competition with a drag-flick. Artem Ozerskyi, however, swapped the lead around in the second period, one from a corner, the other from an excellent finish with a diving touch over the advancing Sergii Koval to make it 2-1.

That came with 17 minutes to go and the Belarussians looked in decent shape before a meltdown in the closing phases. Both Ozerskyi and Valery Kachmarski were yellow carded and they conceded a last minute corner which Koshelenko whipped home, low into the backboard for the draw.

Grange 2 (H Imrie 2) Three Rock Rovers 3 (J Hosking, J Bruton, R Canning)
Ross Canning’s second goal from a narrow angle proved enough for Three Rock Rovers to scrape to second win from two outings at the Tilman EuroHockey Club Champions Trophy to head up Pool B.

They rode their luck, though, as Grange had a series of good chances while Stephen West had a stunning game between the posts. Jody Hosking gave the home club the lead when he thrashed home a bouncing ball in mid-circle.

But the Scottish champions fought back in fine style and swapped the lead with two goals in a 60 second spell from Hamish Imrie, the first a classy spin from a corner rebound and the second followed moments later.

They were certainly forcing the issue from there on but were stung by a counter-attack goal, swiftly worked to Luke Madeley on the right who drove forward and crossed. It popped up to a queue of waiting Rovers attackers and Jonny Bruton pumped it home for 2-2 on the stroke of half-time.

Rovers then hit the front midway through the second half when Canning clipped home from the narrowest of angles with a classy goal for 3-2.

Grange piled forward as time passed and had a corner in the last minute but West once again stood tall to close out the win. It means they will top the group with a draw on Sunday against SC Stroitel Brest who need a win to reach the final.
