Day one at EuroHockey Club Trophy, Men, Cagliari

Day 1 of the Eurohockey Club Champions Trophy began with a contest between the current Irish and Italian club champions. Monkstown started very brightly despite the blistering heat and took and through a well taken goal by David Carson. Monkstown continued to press HC Bra hard and the game was all but over as a contest by half time as Carson claimed his hat trick and Monkstown tool a 5 -0 lead in at the break. The second half was a far less intense affair with only one more goal being scored and the game finished 6-0
The second match was a very ad feisty affair with very little separating Navax HTC Vienna and Atasport as they both fought to control the game. Atasport took the lead through Shazad Nasir in the 33rd minute. The game continued to be tense in the second half when Atasport opened up a 2 goal led through Ali Nadarov in the 62nd minute. AHTC struck back within a minute to make 1-2 and Atasport closed the game out with a goal in the final minute to win the game 1-3.

The third game of the day saw OKS of Ukraine play Whitchurch of Wales and in what was an entertaining game OKS proved to be just too good with an impressive second half performance to win 4-0.

In the final game of the day Amsicora ran out comfortable winners against Grange of Scotland with an impressive all round performance Davide Lugas scoring a penalty corner and marshalling his defence well against concerted Grange pressure in the second half. The Italian side scored all their goals in the first half but Grange came back with a strong second half performance but could not force a goal and Amiscora ran out comfortable winners in the end.

Day one at EuroHockey Club Champions Challenge II, Men, Slagelse

The first day in Soerbymagle saw three very close games. In the late morning, HC Gomel from Belarus and Eagles HC from Gibraltar started off the tournament. A very experienced and clever team from Gibraltar took away the win. In the second game between Partille SC from Sweden and Senkvice from Slovakia, the Scandinavians managed to turn around a 2-0 disadvantage into a 3-2 victory. An enthusiastic home crowd would have hoped the same for the hosts from Soerbymagle but had to see their team loose to a Turkish side from Gaziantep that showed no mercy on their quick counter attacks. With a final score of 1-3, after a 1-1 tie at half time, the tournament starts with a big disappointment for the home team.
