19.05.2015, Brussels: As we continue our preview of the EuroHockey Club Tournaments this weekend, we focus on the Women’s events. As the EuroHockey Club Champions Cup (EHCCC) was held in SCHC at Easter, the 4 remaining divisions will take place over this coming weekend.

Minsk is our first destination on this round-Europe tour! As the Belorussian Champions host the second tier event. The hosts are  no stranger to EuroHockey Club events, but have been more successful Indoors in recent times, they earned their place here in the Trophy courtesy of a winning performance from their compatriots HC Ritm-Azot Grodno. They will be hoping to keep their place in this Division but will have strong opposition in UHC Hamburg who were relegated from the top flight last year and will be looking to return there in 2016.

Day 1 kicks off earlier than the other events on Thursday with some tasty games:

Thursday 21st May 2015
11:00  B   Atasport – MSC Sumchanka
13:15  B   Pembroke Wanderers – Royal Wellington THC
15:30  A   UHC Hamburg – HC Metrostroy
17:45  A   Real Sociedad de Futbal SAD – HC Minsk

EuroHockey Club Champions Challenge I – 22/25 May 2015:

Next up and starting a day later, we move to Vienna, we spoke to Marcin NYCKOWIAK  the SV Arminen Head Coach.

Nico is of the opinion that there is no great sporting advantage to being the host club, however there is an economic advantage and at least ensures that you are in control of where you are playing instead of having to plan a trip halfway across Europe! SV Arminen is a team mixed with experience and youth and a smattering of Polish players Joanna Wieloch , Paulina Okaj, Magda Lesniewicz and Kasha Krasinska who bring a real strength to the team. Physscially the strongest player is the Keeper, Paulina Okaj, otherwise known as ‘The Wolf’. The one to watch – well he thinks ‘The Baby’ Alexandra Lenzinger will be the one…

Captain Kristine Vukovich told us “Our team worked hard in the past and we are really looking forward to be part in this competition. Of course, promotion would be a great success for this team and would be a reward for our effort. Furthermore, I am confident that we will perform well and I am proud to stand on the pitch which such a great team.”

Games kick off on Friday 22nd as the hosts face the perennial Italian students:

11:00  B   HC Universitario Catania A.S.D. – SV Arminen
13:15  B   HC Ritm-Azot Grodno – SK Slavia Praha
15:30  A   KHC Dragons – Clydesdale Western
17:45  A   S.G. Amsicora ASD – Swansea City HC

Our 3rd Division the EuroHockey Club Champions Challenge II, takes place in Mérignac, France.

Unfortunately the Ukrainian team were forced to withdraw late on so it’s a 7 team event with 2 promotions and 1 relegation to Challenge III in 2016. We were very pleased to speak with Head Coach, Nicholas Roche ahead of the maiden hosts, Sport Athletique Merignacais. He was not sure if hosting would prove to be an advantage or disadvantage as with such an inexperienced, young team they could be overwhelmed by the occasion, but he is sure they will give their all, and hosting will be an unforgettable experience.

His key players are “Sylvine DaCunha, goalkeeper, she has international experience, which will help and bring a certain degree of calm to the team”, “Pia Maydieu, midfield, she’s grown up this year, she faced up to her responsibilities on and off the field. She can help motivate the team with her huge desire to always keep playing.” and  “Julie Bergère, striker, a typical striker, she always wants to score and from all angles. She can turn a ball into a goal at any moment.” They currently are lucky enough to have two Argentinian players one who is a strong defender and is quick with ball turnover, creating attacks and the other who compliments the team and is strong in possession with excellent dribbling skills.

His ‘up and coming player is “Mahaut Rebaudieres, striker, could be the surprise of the tournament, she’s a very young girl of 15years old, she’s getting more confident and she’s progressing quickly. She’s always in the right place, and when she masters the right stick movement, she will score a lot of goals!!!. We shall have to wait and see the results….

With now only 3 games per day, Friday’s schedule’s starts with the 2 French teams facing the other!

13:15  B   Sport Athletique Merignacais – Lille MHC
15:30  B   HC Rotweiss Wettingen – HC Olten

The final Division EuroHockey Club Champions Challenge III will be held in Prague:

As Czech team HC Hostivar were relegated in 2014, 1946 Praga, will be looking to get themselves re-promoted to the EuroHockey Challenge II where CZE was in 2013. Tending to do rather better at home rather than travel, the team from Prague are once again in the hot hosting seat, a place the club relishes and with the backing of the Czech Federation will no doubt put on a good event.

A full schedule of 4 games take place on day 1, with the hosts facing Post SV from Austria.
