Ireland played Argentina, the world number 1’s again this afternoon in their second and final test match.  The first half was evenly contested with Ireland defending much better than in the 1st game.  Argentina took the lead in the 18 minute after nice work down the right flank for a pull back where Cavallero’s finished neatly. Ireland were back level in the 34th minute when Emma Smyth finished from the left edge.  Ireland 1-1 Argentina half time.

Argentina came out much stronger in the 2nd half and in an 8th minute spell had scored 3 times to finish the game.  The first came in the 43 minute when Merinos shot/cross from the right slips under Aymar stick and evaded Gray.  Within a minute Gray was left one on one and Sruoga to make it 3-1.  Argentina kept pouring forward and were awarded s penalty stroke when following a penalty corner the ball came back off Sargent’s foot to put Argentina 4-1 up.

Commenting after the match Coach Muller said “I am happy with our preparation for the Europeans these  matches were very useful for us as they highlighted some of our weakness but at the same time we had the opportunity to play high quality international hockey.”
