11.07.2015; With the final day at 3 of our EuroHockey Youth Championships, there was much drama and excitement as Champions were crowned and some teams were relegated, the highs and lows of sport! The winner, as ever being hockey  in the end as the players from all teams sang ‘Ireland’s Call’ in Mori…

EuroHockey Youth Championship II, Girls, Mori:

Italy avenged their defeat in the group, beating Ukraine and finishing in third place in the European Women’s Under-18 which ends today at Mori. In the final, Ireland imposed themselves on Poland with a 7 to 0, confirming the predictions and winning the title. Ireland and Poland are promoted while Wales, at the end of the last round of the C Pool are relegated. So much regret for the Italians who, today, have been shown to be far superior to Ukraine. The award ceremony at the end of the day was fantastic, with the Irish who sang Ireland’s call and the opponents who have joined the chorus and the embrace, true hockey friendship!

Ukrainian Alina Fadieieva was awarded best goalkeeper, fairplay went to Italy and best player Lena Tice from Ireland.

EuroHockey Youth Championship III, Girls, Sveti Ivan Zelina:

Today was final day of EuroHockey U18 Championship III tournament in Sveti Ivan Zelina, with the final two matches being played.

The first match between Belarus and Gibraltar confirmed Belarus domination. They scored 13 goals against the last ranked team in this tournament. Gibraltar gave resistance through whole match and are a great role model for never giving up!

The second match was between Turkey and home team Croatia. The Croatian girls were down after two big losses and they tried to play much better in this match. Turkey won 4 : 0 and confirmed their 2nd place in the tournament.

Final standings:

3. Switzerland
4. Croatia
5. Gibraltar

For the best player of the tournament prize went to Turkish player and captain of their team Songul Gultekin who is also, together with Natallia Shtsin from Belarus, top scorer of the tournament.

Prize for best goalkeeper went to Zrinka Tadić from Croatia who had a lot of great defenses and saved her team from conceeding a lot of goals.

Results:
Pool C :
Turkey – Austria 2 : 7 ( 0 :3 )
France – Poland 0 : 1 ( 0 :0 )

Semifinals
Wales – Czech Republic 0 : 3 ( 0 :1 )
Italy – Switzerland 3 : 0 ( 0:0 )

Italy and Czech Republic the two Finalists in Calais

Pool C :
It was a high scoring game in the first match of the C Pool. Austria had an excellent start in the game and scored an early goal which led to a 3:0 Halftime result was in favour of Austria. Austria dominated the match and deserved the win.
France vs Poland: A close game from start to finish with lots of chances to score on both sides. France scored the only goal in the game in the last 5 minutes of the game. Either team would have deserved to win.

Semifinals:
Czech Republic vs Wales: Great control of the game by Czech Team. An early Penalty stroke was awarded and converted in the 9th minute. In the 2nd half Wales were not able to show the skills they had produced in the pool matches. Two field goals in the 40th and 57th minute secured the Czech team the win and they will play Italy in the final tomorrow.
Italy vs Switzerland: Extremely close game with the Italian Team slightly dominating the first half. However no score. In the second half Italy converted one of the many Penalty corners and opened the score in the 44th minute. Switzerland tried to fight back, but were unable to convert any of their chances. Clever Italians increased the lead within minutes to become the deserved winners of the second Semifinal.

EuroHockey Youth Championship III Boys, Minsk: 

The 3rd and 4th place classification match between Lithuania and Bulgaria was again a very competitive affair. Lithuania took a first half lead of 2-1 But early in the second half Bulgaria turned over the score to take a 3-2 lead. In the final minutes of the game Lithuania equalised and further increased their score to 4-3 to take 3rd place.

In the final game Ukraine and Belarus met again and Belarus took the early initiative to take a 2-1 half time lead. Ukraine went on to equalise at 2 all and take the lead at 3-2 in the last minutes Belarus equalized to take the final into a shootout. It needed sudden death to have an eventual winner with Ukraine taking the title 3-2.
