19th February 2017: The final day here in Wettingen started with the 2 final Pool C games, essential games as they would determine not only the ranking but who would be in the Championship Division in 2018 and who would be relegated. Kampong had their best performance of the tournament to beat Royal Pingouin 6-1. They then had to wait for the result of Armenin v Slavia Praha to see had they done enough! Armenin’s win sees Austria and Netherlands secure their places in the top flight in 2018. Belgium and Czech Republic are the teams relegated to the Trophy in 2018.

Pool C: SV Kampong 6 – 1 (1 – 0) Royal Pingouin HC

First game of the day was SV Kampong v Royal Pingouin HC. Within this competitive pool the games this morning would determine who would be staying and who would be leaving the Championship division. Kampong were very clear in their objective, they needed to win, and they needed to win well v the Belgians if they had a hope of staying in this division.

A slow start to the game as neither side wanted to make errors but NOTMAN opened the scoring for Kampong in the 6th minute. It was the only goal of the first half.

In the second half Kampong got into their stride and had their best 20 minutes of the tournament, scoring 5 more, with only one coming from a tired looking Belgian team, de WAARD and KORINK getting 2 each.   The final score was 6-1.

Speaking to Kampong captain Lisette KORINK Lisette after the game, she said “For us it was game that we finally got everything right. It was nice to end the Tournament like this.” Speaking overall about the Tournament she added “Everything was really well done, well organised. We enjoyed it, with our fans here and especially our team mates who weren’t playing but supported us.”

Coach Santi Freixa, speaking about the performance today and overall throughout the Tournament said “I am really happy with the girls and how they are performing at this level. In a tournament you have mixed feelings – today we showed what we could do. In every match we played well but there was always something that didn’t match at this level. We are the youngest team here so its’ about learning.” Talking about the wait and see now he said “Now I hope that our country can stay at this level. It is really important for our country (The Netherlands) to have a high level competition each year.”

Pool C: SV Arminen 3 – 1 (1 – 0) SK Slavia Prague

Armenin had the better of the first half here in Wettingen against a very young Prague side. Armenin earned PC in the 13th minute, the ball was stopped on the line by a Slavia foot, so a stroke was awarded, WIELOCH slotted it home! The halftime score was 1-0.

Armenin dominated again in the second half as a tired Slavia worked very hard to get the ball and make a change to the game. WIELOCH added 2 more goals, earning a hat-trick and 5th place for her team here in Wettingen.
