23rd February 2018: After 8 games and 36 goals it is UHC Hamburg (on 7 points) and AH&BC Amsterdam (on 10 points) that head up pool A and pool B respectively overnight here in Dundee. 

Game 1: Rotweiss Wettingen v MS Sumchanka

This was an all action, end to end battle. Sumchanka had the early chances but paid for their misses when they were hit by a Bugmann hat trick to trail 3-0 at halftime. Sumchanka made a great second half comeback with goals by Shevchenko(2) and Shokalovo to get level . However with only 60 seconds on the clock Tamara Trosch won it for Rotweiss with a field goal.

Game 2: GHC Ritm Grodno v AH &BC Amsterdam

The game started with a bang  with AH&BC taking a lead in the second minute through Noor de Baat. What followed was an incredibly tight game with both teams working incredibly hard to cut down scoring opportunities. Desperate to equalise Sumchanka pulled their keeper with just minutes to go and caught one on one with the kicking back Felice Albers notched the second AH&BC goal in the final 60 seconds

Game 3: UHC Hamburg v SV Arminen

It was aGermany v Austria derby in game three and this, like game two was a tense game between these two near neighbours. At times it seemed like the UHC attack were camped in the Arminen half and they took the lead through Marlene Muller in the tenth minute. The Arminen defence performed heroics  and they gained their reward with an equaliser on the stroke of half-time. The second half followed the same pattern.UHC attack v the Arminen defence but they cancelled each other out.

Game 4: Club Campo de Madrid v MJV Dundee Wanderers

This was the final game of the morning session and it was one the home fans had been looking forward to, but it took only five minutes for them to be silenced by a goal from Rebecca Grote. Three minutes later Lucia Lopez -Alonso made it two. Amy Snelle made it 2-1 in the 11th minute but Wanderers went in 4-1 down at half time after two quick fire gaols in the 16th and 17th minutes from Empar Gil and Laura Barrios. The second half saw a series of vital saves by the Wanderers’ keeper Carmin Dow including one from a penalty flick and two clearances off the line by Osborne and Sangster. Madrid made teir pressure pay in the end and goals by ,Beatriz Perez Lagunas, and Rebecca Grote in the 27th and 31st minutes too Madrid’s lead to 6-1. Sam Sangster struck back at a penalty corner to make it 6-2. But two goals in the last two minutes for Lucia Lopez-Alonso and Laura Barrios made IT 8-2

Game 5: AH&BC Amsterdam v MSC Sumchanka

AH&BC specialise in early goals and Sumchanka in comebacks and this game didn’t break that pattern. Amsterdam took the lead inside the first 60 seconds of the first half with a goal from Felice Albers. Sumchanka equalised 9 minutes later through Oksana Ponomorenko. Charlotte Vega scored  within a minute  restore Amsterdam’s lead and Julia Muller extended it to 3-1 in the 16th minute. Yulia Shevchenko got one back only 3 minutes into the second half. Charlotte Vega got her second of the game with 9 minutes left on the clock but Sumchanka never gave up and created an exciting finish pressing for the equaliser after another Yulia Shevchenko’s strike.

Game 6: HC Rotweiss Wettingen v GHC Ritm Grodno

Grodno began this game impressively and quickly gained two penalty corners which they failed to capitalise on. However their pressure paid off in the 6th minute when Alesia Vasilyeva gave them the lead. Rotweiss rallied from this early setback and Jessica Ebi equalised in the 15th minute. But with less than 60 seconds on the clock Grodno finally got the better of the outstanding Walti and Alesia Vasilyeva scored after a slick one two. The 2nd half was scoreless but didn’t lack for dram as both Walti and Kechan pulled off excellent saves. The decisive moment was when Rotweiss sent a penalty stroke sailing over the bar.Rotweiss played their final card when they brought on a kicking back but it was in vain as Grodno held out to win

Game 7: Club Campo de Madrid v UHC Hamburg

UHC began the game strongly pressurising the Madrid defence but without getting the ball into the Madrid circle. Madrid played on the break but just couldn’t take advantage of their quick attacks. UHC finally take the lead through Nicola Scharlau  and the floodgates open with another two goals in 4 minutes from Lena Micheel and Katharina Otte . However Madrid countered with a goal from Empar Gil to take them into half time at 3-1 down. The second half saw Madrid take the initiative for long periods of time but they just couldn’t get past the UHC defence into the circle to get shots on target. UHC displayed great hockey skills and intelligence to withstand the Madrid attacks and saw out the second half without conceding another goal.

Game 8: SV Arminen v Dundee Wanderers

Arminen drew their first game v UHC Hamburg and Wanderers lost to Club Campo de Madrid. This was a vital game for Wanderers especially, could they recover from their earlier heavy defeat? It was a very different Wanderers team who took to the court and this was a evenly fought hard contest. It ebbed and flowed with both sides swapping attack and defence. However, it was Arminen who took the lead in the 16th minute with a goal from Lucia Graser. This was to prove decisive as despite some great hockey from both sides there was no score in the second half.
