Today we saw 15 matches played across our championships, and not even the rain could put a damper on this hockey weekend. Below you will find a recap of the ladies’ action of the day.

Minsk, Trophy – Day 2

Day 2 of the Club Champions Trophy did not disappoint, even with a crazy deluge of rain in the middle of the day.

MSC Sumchanka and Royal Wellington had a close game, but both defenses held strong, ending in a scoreless tie. MSC Sumchanka v Royal Wellington 0:0 (0:0)

Pembroke Wanderers and Atasport also drew, although there were 4 goals to keep the crowd guessing. Atasport began strong, but Pembroke equalised quickly in a good turnaround. The second half began with an emboldened Wanderers taking the lead, but Atasport’s continuous efforts paid off and the game ended in a 2:2 tie. Pembroke Wanderers v Atasport 2:2 (1:1)

Trophy Minsk women 2015

In spite torrential rain, Hamburg came ready and scored all 3 goals in the first half. The Spanish side simply could not contain the German favourites.  Real Sociedad de Futbol SAD v UHC Hamburg  0:3 (0:3)

In  a dramatic match up, Metrostroy met the host. A very close first half ended without goals. Minsk managed to come back from the break and scored 2 goals. Metrostroy  managed to score a PC before the final whistle, but it was not enough, and Minsk took the game.  HC Metrostroy v HC Minsk 1:2 (0-0)

Vienna, Challenge I – Day 1

The first match of the day saw Catania meet the host, SV Arminen. Catania got off to a great start, scoring 2 goals after 23 minutes. Arminen managed to score from  a PC 3 minutes before halftime. In the second half, Catania sealed the deal with one more goal. HC Universitario Catania v SV Arminen 3:2 (2:1)

Ritm-Azot Grodno took an aggressive approach and scored 5 goals in the first half. Prague could do little to stop them and only managed a goal in the second half. HC Ritm-Azot Grodno v SK Slavia Praha 5:1 (5:0)

2015 Challenge I Vienna women

In a very  tight match-up, the game was very close all throughout. The first half ended 1-1.  The second half was just as close, but Clydesdale managed to pull ahead with a goal in the 68th minute. KHC Dragons v Clydesdale Western 1:2 (1:1)

Swansea opened the score with a PC, but Amsicora equalised 2 minutes before the half time buzzer. After the break, the Italians scored once more with a PC, and later another goal  put Amsicora 2 goals ahead, and at the top of pool A. S.G. Amsicora v Swansea City HC 3:1 (1:1)

Mérignac, Challenge II – Day 1

It was a beautiful day for hockey in Bordeaux, with the sun shining and a small crown who came to see the action. The day saw 3 uneven matches.

The hosts played the opening game against their fellow countrywomen, Lille MHC. Lille came on strong, with 3 goals in the first half, and 2 more at the start of the second half. SA Merignacais rallied at the end and managed to score two goals, but it was simply not enough. Sport Athletique Merignacais v Lille MHC 2-5 (0-3)

The second match up of the day saw Rotweiss Wettingen take on their countrywomen HC Olten. The Swiss match up was also not an even one, with Wettingen scoring 3 goals in the first half, and another 2 in the second half. HC Olten only got one successful opportunity in the 44the minute. HC Rotweiss Wettingen v HC Olten 5-1 (3-0)

Grove Menzieshill  was the dominant force in their game, scoring 4 goals in both halves and conceding none with Captain Linda Clement scoring a hat trick. Grove Menzieshill HC v Highway Hockey 8-0 (4-0)

Prague, Challenge III

In the tournament opener, Lithuanian HFTC-Tauran met Gibraltar’s Eagles. Both cautions teams, Eagles managed to secure the game thanks to a PC in the 22nd minute. HFTC-Tauras v Eagles HC 0:1 (0:1)

Challenge III women Prague 2015

An incredibly one sided game saw the Turkish girls score a whopping 12 goals (6 in each half), including Perihan Kucukko’s hat trick. Kecioren Baglum SK v HC Imittos 12:0 (6:0)

Both newcomers to the competiton, the Welsh team asserted itself with 3 goals in 4 minutes, starting at the 16th minute. Another hat trick here, this time by Rachel Hillier. Newport Gent LHC v Nacka LHK 3:0 (3:0)

Challenge III women Prague 2015

The hosts met Austria’s Post SV. After a close but scoreless first half, both sides came alive in the second half.Post opened the score in the 41st minute, but the equaliser was not far behind. Another push from Post put the game at 1:2 in their favour, but this was shortlived. Emboldened by the home crown, HC 1946 Praga was quick to score once again, and then twice more, securing an important victory.  HC 1946 Praga v Post SV 4-2 (0-0)
