#EquallyAmazing aims to promote gender balance throughout European Hockey. Different stories from members of the hockey family are highlighted; illustrating the important role that both men and women have in strengthening the sport.
We spoke to Sally Munday, CEO of England Hockey, about the importance of the #EquallyAmazing campaign and charter.
When asked about the impact she hopes the charter will have on the sport of hockey, Munday answered that the sport should strive for a balance of genders at all levels and that the charter will hopefully “invite people to look at the way they are structured and look at the balance that they have in their country”. Ultimately, she hopes that organisations will take action and make their boards more balanced from a gender point of view because “balanced boards make better decisions and that’s what we’re looking for”.
Across Europe, National Associations are in different places in terms of gender balance on boards and all leaders have a role to play while the European hockey family moves toward a more #EquallyAmazing future. As for what she can do, Munday states that there is an opportunity for people like herself to act as mentors to others who may be coming up the system and might want to move into leadership positions or board positions but lack the experience to do so. She hopes that her past experiences can help others navigate the terrain.
The #EquallyAmazing campaign is supported by both the International Hockey Federation (FIH) and the European Hockey Federation (EHF) in an effort to ensure that everyone has access to the same opportunities – from the pitch to the boardroom.
