Match 15: Germany v Belarus

Once again in front of its home crowd – or “7th player” as Captain Syrayezhka described it earlier today, Belarus went 2-0 ahead of the current Champions Germany. Germany came back in the 2nd quarter to equal the game by half time. Belarus went ahead again the 3rd quarter and held the lead into the final quarter. Germany opted for a power-play but Belarus pressed high and scored two more to bring the game to 2-5 and held firm to make it to its second-ever EuroHockey final. They will be hoping to do one better than in 2012 when they lost their semi-final in a shoot-out competition.

Match 16: Netherlands v Czech Republic

Runners up in 2018, the Dutch were determined to have a clear route to the final and attached hard in the first half to go 3-0 ahead. Czech fought hard in the second half bringing the score to 4-1 in the final minute, using the power play effectively but it was too little, too late and the Dutch will face the hosts Belarus in the Final tomorrow.

Earlier in Pool C

Match 13: Belgium v Switzerland 3-1

Belgium got on the score sheet within 2 minutes and held that smallest of margins until the second half. Goals in the 3rd and 4th quarter from Belgium as Switzerland found themselves chasing the game. The 3 points lifts Belgium off the bottom of the Pool but they still need a further win to stay in the division.

Match 14: Ukraine v Austria 4-1

After just missing out on a semi-final game Ukraine dug deep to grind out a result against Austria. Austria opened the scoring but 2 goals in the second quarter saw them under pressure going into the second half. Ukraine added 2 more to put the game beyond the grasp of the Austrians, leaving it all to play for in their game v Belgium in the morning. Ukraine goes into its final pool game knowing that its position in the Championship division is safe.
