The EHF joins with Danas in the Hockey Forest

Posted On 31/01/2020

The European Hockey Federation has today donated one tree per Member Association of the EHF as an act of solidarity with the German National Women’s team for the Hockey Forest in South Africa.

The project, led by EHF Athlete Committee Co-Chair Janne Müller-Wieland plans to create a Hockey Forest in South Africa with 2020 trees by the end of 2020.

The EHF President, Marijke Fleuren said “The EHF is very mindful of the world around us and that sport has to play its part in taking care of our world. We are truly inspired and excited by the idea that has come from Janne and her team. We are aware that of course, this Hockey Forest is not enough, but it is a step towards hockey becoming sustainable. We have today bought one tree per Member Association of the EHF and we have entrusted the planting of the trees to the German Women’s team. We are excited about the project and we hope that individuals and Member Associations will now follow our lead and back Janne and her team.”

Janne Müller-Wieland said “Usually we are competing against each other, the Hockey Forest is a real chance for hockey to be a leader in sport and actively do something to offset our carbon footprint. While we are training and playing in South Africa we will have the chance to plant the trees and start the Hockey Forest. We are very grateful to the EHF for showing leadership and getting behind the project and we hope that many others will follow with us.”
