EuroHockey Competition Season 2026

The EuroHockey Championships 2027 (Men &amp; Women) will take on a new-look 12-team format for the event which will be played in England from late July to early August 2027.



As with previous editions, the event will also include the EuroHockey ID (Intellectual Disability) Championships, taking place alongside the elite competitions – celebrating hockey’s inclusive spirit and showcasing the sport’s commitment to equality and opportunity for all.



The expansion from eight to 12 teams is designed to create more competitive balance and meaningful matches across all ranking positions, while opening up the top tier to more nations eager to make their mark on the European stage.



The updated structure will be the same for both genders and will feature the 12 nations divided into four pools of three teams. It ensures every side has a clear pathway toward classification outcomes and future qualification opportunities.



The top six nations on the FIH world rankings following the 2026 World Cup will be split across Pools A and B, while Pools C and D will include the teams ranked seven to 12.



After the opening group phase, the competition will progress into quarter-finals, featuring:

<li>Runner-up in Pool A plays third in Pool B; runner-up in Pool B plays third in Pool A</li>

Teams finishing second or third in Pools C and D will move into Pool E, where they will compete for ninth to twelfth place.



That ninth-place finish will carry extra significance &#8211; influencing qualification for the next EuroHockey Championships and potentially impacting access to future FIH competitions.



EuroHockey Championship II and III events will now take place in late August 2027 with the entrants to be confirmed following the conclusion of next summer’s qualification events in Czechia, Italy and Finland.

The venues for the 2027 EuroHockey Indoor U21 Championships have been confirmed with Gniezno, Poland set to host the women&#8217;s tournament while the men&#8217;s top tier will be in Sveti Ivan Zelina, Croatia and Championship II is in Alanya, Türkiye.

Gniezno, Sveti Ivan Zelina and Alanya to host U21 indoor championships in 2027

Following the completion of ABN AMRO EHL Women and the EuroHockey Trophy I and II tournaments last weekend, the make-up of the qualifiers for next season’s EHL is now known.



The Netherlands remains in top spot following Den Bosch’s victory last Monday while Belgium is the big movers near the top of the EHL Ranking Table courtesy of Braxgata’s silver and Gantoise’s bronze.



They jump up from fourth&nbsp;to second spot&nbsp;above Germany in third and Spain in fourth; those nations will all receive two spots each at next Easter’s FINAL12.



England and Ireland retrain one spot in EHL Women in fifth and sixth place, respectively, with their second representative set for the EuroHockey Trophy I.



Scotland, meanwhile, will have their first ever EHL Women’s side in 2026. They will move up from ninth to seventh in Ranking Table thanks to Watsonians run to the Trophy I final and Clydesdale’s bronze in Trophy II.



Czechia stay in eighth place overall and retain their place in the top tier with Ukraine the nation to miss out on a spot in EHL Women.

Qualifier allocations for EHL Women 2026 confirmed

Last weekend, the EuroHockey Competitions Committee Outdoor met in the EuroHockey Office in Brussels, Belgium, for their first meeting of the year.



The Committee received updates on the Euro Hockey League, EuroHockey club events 2025, EuroHockey U18 Championships 2025 and EuroHockey Championships 2025.



The Committee considered the entries and applications to host the EuroHockey 5s U16 Championships 2026, the EuroHockey 5s Senior Championships 2026 and the EuroHockey U21 Championships 2026. Recommendations for the awarding of these 3 sets of Championships were made to the EuroHockey executive board. These will be announced in April as soon as the EuroHockey executive board has approved them.



They received updates on FIH events and discussed some (regulations) questions. Any changes will be published in due course (if needed) in the various sets of Regulations and Event Manuals.



The next committee meeting will be in September 2025.
