HC Oranje-Rood will host the ABN AMRO Euro Hockey League Men’s ROUND1 in Eindhoven from October 9th to 11th 2026, bringing the competition back to one of the EHL’s iconic locations after a seven-year break.



The Charles Roelslaan venue welcomed big crowds when it previously hosted the GRAND FINAL in both 2014 and 2019 as well as the 2017 KO16 and the club are thrilled to be back on this stage.



“We are incredibly proud that the Euro Hockey League is returning to Eindhoven and HC Oranje-Rood. Hosting Europe’s premier club hockey event is both an honour and a responsibility,” says&nbsp;HC Oranje-Rood chairperson Birgit Slaats.



“Together with our partners, our dedicated volunteers and the innovative Brainport region, we look forward to welcoming Europe’s best clubs and creating an outstanding experience that showcases the very best of international hockey, hospitality and our community.”



Echoing her thoughts,&nbsp;EHL Chairman Peter Elders&nbsp;added: “Oranje-Rood is one of the iconic Euro Hockey League clubs and so it is wonderful to return to Eindhoven to begin the 20th EHL season.



“Based in the heart of Brabant, the setup in the clubhouse, pitch and stands is perfect for showcasing our sport in the best possible way.”

Being based in Eindhoven also allows the EHL to benefit from the full expertise of the KNHB’s events team who will put together this event following this summer’s World Cup.



This year’s EHL ROUND1 sees the return of the group phase with 12 teams divided into four groups of three.



It will feature clubs from 11 different nations. They include hosts HC Oranje-Rood, Belgian debutants Royal Orée, England’s Wimbledon, 2017 champions Rot-Weiss Köln from Germany; Spain’s Real Club de Polo; French duo CAM92 and Lille MHC; Ireland’s Lisnagarvey; Scottish newcomers Edinburgh University; Czechia’s Slavia Prague, Austria’s SV Arminen and Rotweiss Wettingen.

HC Oranje-Rood To host ABN AMRO Euro Hockey League Men’s ROUND1

Switzerland’s men and Scotland’s women have been confirmed as the final nations to receive a place in next season’s Euro Hockey League following confirmation of the latest EHL Ranking Table.



<h4 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-men">Men</h4>



Grasshopper Club Zürich’s gold medal at the EuroHockey Club Trophy II in Rome was enough to see their country move up to 10th&nbsp;in the Ranking Table.



It means Switzerland will have a place in EHL Men ROUND1 next October along with one team from the Netherlands, Belgium, England, Germany, Spain, Ireland, Scotland, Austria and Czechia as well as two from France.



Overall, the top seven nations remained the same while Scotland moved up one place to eighth, swapping with Austria who are now ninth. Switzerlands moved above Czechia in 11th.



Outside of the EHL positions, Wales made the big move from 15th&nbsp;to 12th&nbsp;thanks to Cardiff &amp; Met’s gold medal in Trophy I in Vienna.

<h4 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-women">Women</h4>



Clydesdale Western’s perfect record at the EuroHockey Club Trophy II in Alanya – in addition to Watsonians’ FINAL12 win over Railway Union – saw Scotland formally confirmed as the final nation represented in next season’s EHL.



Indeed, those successes have combined to see Scotland rise to sixth place above Ireland in the Ranking Table.



A French club will make their EHL debut next season with the country now occupying eighth place with Czechia dropping to 10th&nbsp;overall.



Outside of the EHL places, Austria are now up to ninth place with Ukraine (11th) and Switzerland (12th) both dropping one place.

Swiss men and Scottish women complete EHL 2026/27 line-up

From 2027 onwards, both the Euro Hockey League Men’s and Women’s competitions will feature FINAL12 events at Easter.



The updated schedule ensures an equal number of matches and a consistent competition structure across both genders at the showpiece EHL FINALS event.



The main effect of this change impacts the EHL Men’s schedule and format with the Easter tournament expanding from a FINAL8 to FINAL12.



October&#8217;s EHL Men&#8217;s KO16, meanwhile, will be replaced by ROUND1 where 12 teams will compete in four groups of three. 



Eight teams will now qualify directly for the FINAL12 with places allocated to the:

<li>top‑seeded teams from nations ranked fourth and fifth on the EHL Ranking Table</li>

The remaining four places will go to the winners of the each group at the ROUND1 event.



The ROUND1 event will feature:

An open draw will be used, ensuring equal opportunity for all teams to qualify for the FINAL12. The only restriction is that two teams from the same nation ranked sixth will not be drawn into the same pool.



The EHL Women’s competition will continue in its current FINAL12 format with the same allocation of qualifying spots per nation.



“These changes allow us to create balance, clarity, and equality across both EHL Men’s and Women’s competitions,” said EHL chairman Peter Elders.



“They also reward strong national performances while retaining open, competitive qualification pathways.”



EuroHockey confirmed that the revised format has been discussed with commercial partners and sponsors, who are supportive of the evolution of the competition.



The finalised EHL Ranking Tables will be published following completion of the EuroHockey Club Trophy II which take place on the Whitsun weekend from May 22nd to 25th.

Easter EHL showpiece to feature FINAL12 format for both men and women

The Easter weekend saw one of the largest set of appointments put together across a wide range of EuroHockey competitions with 101 officials involved at the EHL FINALS in Den Bosch and the two EuroHockey Trophy I tournaments in Vienna.



This included 54 umpires, 24 judges, nine umpire managers, eight technical officiers and six technical delegates.



They oversaw the 26 EHL games and 32 EuroHockey Trophy fixtures while the current Umpire for Nations programme (U4N) umpires blew the whistle in 22 EHL U14 games.



In addition, 20 EHL Hockey ID matches were also taken care of by a unified umpiring team where mainstream partner umpires officiated alongside umpires from the Hockey ID community, individuals with intellectual disabilities.



Beyond these events, the current EuroHockey Umpires for Europe (U4E) programme participants travelled to Germany while Umpire Development Programme (UDP) participants were in Czechia for high performance youth international tournaments.



Those tournaments offered high intensity competition for participants under the watchful eyes of their course mentors.

Huge EuroHockey third team officiate at top class tournaments across Europe

Qualification for the 2026/27 Euro Hockey League has taken further shape in the wake of this Easter’s ABN AMRO EHL Men and the EuroHockey Club Trophy I in Vienna.



The full Ranking Table will be finalised following the conclusion of Trophy II in May but a majority of items are already known.



The Netherlands remains in first place on the list with Belgium and England retaining second and third spot respectively. They keep the three EHL tickets that come with those positions.



Germany, Spain and France remain in fourth, fifth and sixth place respectively on the Ranking Table, meaning they will have two tickets to next season’s EHL.



Ireland, Scotland, Austria and Czechia are all confirmed to have one side in the top tier next season.



The remaining nation will be confirmed following Whitsun when the EuroHockey Club Trophy II will be played in Rome with Switzerland, Italy and Portugal mathematically in contention.

EHL Men’s allocation takes shape after easter events

Following the completion of ABN AMRO EHL Women and the EuroHockey Trophy I tournaments last week, the make-up of the qualifiers for next season’s EHL is almost complete.



The Netherlands remains in top spot following SCHC’s victory while Belgium stay second in the EHL Ranking Table.



They both retain two spots in the EHL along with Germany and Spain who remain in third and fourth place, respectively. England and Ireland retain one spot in EHL Women in fifth and sixth place.



The big mover is France who will have their first EHL Women’s contender in 2027 thanks to Saint Germain’s third and Lille MHC’s fifth place at the EuroHockey Club Trophy I in Vienna last week.



The remaining spot will be formally confirmed after the EuroHockey Club Trophy II in Alanya with Scotland currently in pole position to take that ticket.

Line-up for EHL Women 26/27 picture becomes clearer

The ABN AMRO EHL Hockey ID Tournament, held at HC ’s‑Hertogenbosch, once again proved that hockey is at its strongest when competition, inclusion and community come together.



The tournament expanded to its largest entry to date with nine teams, hailing from five different countries with 20 matches overall culminating in an exciting final between Hudito and Upward.



Hudito eventually claimed the title with a hard‑fought 2–1 victory, while Atletic Terrassa HC secured third place after an entertaining bronze‑medal match against the host club, HC ’s‑Hertogenbosch.



Across the day, goals, celebrations and moments of teamwork underlined the sporting quality of the Hockey ID teams taking part.



More than this, as tournament organiser Gino Schilders emphasised afterwards, the real success of the event went well beyond the results.



“It was truly special to see so many people come together, united by the love of the game and the spirit that makes Hockey ID so unique.”



This year’s edition marked a deliberate step forward in how Hockey ID is positioned within the EHL weekend.



While fun, friendship and inclusion remain the foundation, the ambition was to further align Hockey ID with the standards, professionalism and experience of other EHL events.



From improved organisation and clearer communication to the use of new systems and processes, the 2026 tournament asked more of everyone involved. Organisers, officials, volunteers, coaches and team managers all contributed to making the ambition a reality.



“We set ourselves the ambition to take the next step, to further integrate Hockey ID into the EuroHockey way of working and into the wider EHL culture,” Schilders explained. “Our goal was to raise the bar, while keeping the heart of Hockey ID exactly where it belongs.”



The result was an event that felt fully part of the EHL ecosystem, giving Hockey ID players the experience of competing within the same setting and atmosphere as Europe’s top club hockey.



Central to the day’s success was the collective commitment of a wide network of people and organisations. HC ’s‑Hertogenbosch provided a welcoming host venue, supported by the KNHB and the EuroHockey team.



Long‑standing partner ABN AMRO once again played a crucial role in making the tournament possible.



Schilders also highlighted the many individuals working behind the scenes – officials, judges, volunteers and staff – whose combined efforts ensured the event ran smoothly.



“Behind every name stands a much larger group of dedicated people. Your collective effort is what truly made this event a success.”



Special acknowledgement was given to team leaders and coordinators, as well as to Jokko de Wit for taking a leading role in driving the organisation forward, while maintaining the inclusive spirit that defines Hockey ID.



For the players themselves, taking the field within the EHL environment was a powerful statement of recognition and inclusion.



“Seeing Hockey ID players take their place within the EHL environment is something we can all be proud of,” said Schilders. “I hope your players and staff feel proud of what they have achieved and experienced.”

ABN AMRO EHL hockey ID tournament raises the game once more

SV Kampong summoned an emotional week to remember to win the EHL Men’s title for the second time, 10 years on from their debut success, a crowning moment for a series of departing heroes.



It comes amid a turbulent Hoofdklasse season, ravaged by injury and one which will see them miss out on the playoffs.



Sander de Wijn is one of those stepping away in storybook fashion. He is retiring after a glittering spell in blue; in the lead-up to the competition, he said that while they have struggled for consistency, their highs remain very high and so they proved to devastating effect.



They won a gripping GRAND FINAL 3-2 over reigning champions Gantoise in a final that lurched between control and chaos,



The Utrecht club’s sharpness and intent was obvious from the opening minutes of the final. Kampong burst out of the blocks, punishing early Gantoise errors with ruthless efficiency.



Duco Telgenkamp – who moves to AH&amp;BC Amsterdam in the summer – struck first, spinning onto a loose ball and cracking a backhand high into the corner.



Moments later, Finn van Bijnen doubled the advantage with an almost carbon‑copy finish, again exploiting hesitation at the back.



At 2–0 inside the first quarter, Kampong had seized control of the biggest match on the calendar.



Jip Janssen, only recently back from injury, slammed in a penalty corner to make it 3–0 before the third break and the defending champions looked stunned.



Kampong, so often punished this season for failing to capitalise on dominance, appeared poised for a statement win.



But finals rarely allow comfort. Gantoise responded with the resilience that carried them to last year’s title, pressing higher and forcing errors.



Goals from Alexander Hendrickx and Mathis Lauwers dragged the Belgians back into contention, while a flurry of cards left Kampong scrambling through a nerve‑shredding finale, at one stage defending with just nine players on the pitch.



The final minutes were raw survival. Blocks were thrown, passes delayed, seconds bled away. When the hooter finally sounded, relief swept across the Kampong players – relief, and then overwhelming emotion.



No moment captured that emotion more clearly than the presentation. Rather than lifting the trophy himself, captain Jonas de Geus stepped aside, insisting that de Wijn receive the cup.



The 35‑year‑old defender, completing his final European campaign after 18 seasons in Kampong colours, raised the trophy with tears in his eyes.



“It touched me enormously,” De Wijn said later. “That my teammates wanted this moment for me says everything about this group. I’ve always given everything for the club, but I’ve received so much more in return. To finish like this… it’s almost unreal.”



His farewell became a unifying force throughout the tournament. Even after missing a shoot‑out in the quarter‑finals, De Wijn remained central, steady in defence, vocal in the huddles, symbolic of the mentality Kampong rediscovered at exactly the right time.



Head coach Tim Oudenaller, also departing at season’s end, summed it up simply: this team needed something tangible to reward its work. European gold delivered that – and more.



For De Wijn, it was the perfect goodbye. For Kampong, it was salvation, validation and silverware all rolled into one unforgettable Easter weekend.



Earlier in the day, AH&amp;BC Amsterdam won their fifth EHL Men&#8217;s medal as they defeated Real Club de Campo de Madrid in a shoot-out after normal time ended 2-2. Lee Morton’s audacious dummied effort completed the win 4-3 after a high quality set of one-on-ones.



Manuel Rodríquez had given Campo the lead and then sent the game to the shoot-out without second after Amsterdam goals from Karst Timmer and Luke Dommershuijzen.

Kampong summon golden story-book ending of an era

Yibbi Jansen’s single penalty corner goal fired SCHC to their first ever ABN AMRO EHL Women’s title as the club from Bilthoven defeated HC Den Bosch 1-0 in an all‑Dutch final.



It was a formative moment as they overcame the pain of a number of frustrating near misses on silverware both domestically and in the EHL to land the big prize at Oosterplas.



SCHC’s route to the title underlined their growing authority. After comfortably dismissing Club Egara 6-1 in the round of 16, they shut out Braxgata and Mannheimer HC in the knockout rounds, conceding no goals on the way to the final.



The final itself was never likely to be free‑flowing. As so often when these two giants meet, space was scarce and chances were rationed.



Early on, both sides tested each other’s organisation rather than their goalkeepers. Den Bosch carried danger through Joosje Burg and Frédérique Matla while SCHC threatened intermittently on the counter, most notably through Pien Dicke’s driving runs down the baseline.



Penalty corners were oddly rare, too. SCHC’s first set‑play went awry with an ambitious variation, a reminder of past Dutch finals where promising positions failed to yield reward.



Yet this time, the response was different: calm, measured, and confident that patience would not be punished as it had been before.



The decisive moment arrived midway through the second half. Winning a second penalty corner, SCHC abandoned invention for clarity. Yibbi Jansen stepped up and powered a low push beyond the Den Bosch defence and goalkeeper, a strike as clean as it was symbolic. It was a lead SCHC would refuse to relinquish.



The final quarter was less about aesthetics than resolve. Den Bosch pushed, winning a late corner that briefly lifted the sold out stands but SCHC’s defence held firm.



When the final whistle sounded, relief spilled instantly into celebration: hugs, tears, and disbelief mixed together as years of near‑misses evaporated in a single moment.



Captain Renée van Laarhoven articulated to hockey.nl what the victory represented for a squad that had carried disappointment for so long.



She admitted there were times players wondered “would it ever happen?”



&#8216;”I am so proud that we roll up our sleeves again every September. Saying to each other: okay, we&#8217;re going to try again. We&#8217;re going for it again.



“That takes so much strength. At a certain point, you can also think: Jesus, I don&#8217;t feel like doing this anymore. It hurts so much, losing every time.



“But we agreed together: no, it&#8217;s not over yet. There will come a moment when we do win it, and then we&#8217;ll be glad that we never gave up.”



Van Laarhoven also highlighted that the win was built on lessons learned the hard way.



“Over the years, we have learned what it takes to win matches. And it doesn&#8217;t have to be pretty. That might not be fun for the crowd but it is what is necessary.



“These have been hard lessons over the past few years. But we have learned that we simply have to do what is necessary to get a game over the finish line.”



For Den Bosch, it meant a second EHL silver medal to go with three golds in the six editions of the women’s competition.



Mannheimer HC, meanwhile, got their second EHL medal as they added bronze to the silver won two years ago as they defeated Real Club de Campo de Madrid.



They won a thriller with Stine Kurz settling the matter with a penalty stroke with four minutes to go earning them a 3-2 win.



Blanca Perez had given the Spanish side the lead early on from a corner but Mannheim swapped the advantage by half-time with Julia Hemmerle and Charlotte Gerstenhöfer on the mark.



Campo were on top for most of the second half and levelled through Sara Barrios but Mannheim got their stroke from a fast counter for the game’s defining moment.
