Brussels, Belgium and Stockholm, Sweden, 8th September 2026 – EuroHockey and Sportway Media Group have entered into a new long-term partnership designed to significantly expand the visibility and accessibility of live hockey across Europe through enhanced live streaming, digital distribution and innovative broadcast technology.



Under the five-year agreement Sportway will become EuroHockey&#8217;s official streaming platform partner, providing its automated sports broadcasting technology and digital services to support EuroHockey&#8217;s growing portfolio of events and competitions.



The partnership will combine coverage of major existing EuroHockey competitions with the introduction of new broadcast capabilities for additional events across Europe.



As part of the initiative, Sportway will facilitate the expansion of streaming with our member associations and clubs &#8211; over the traditional 8-12 events the year &#8211; with the introduction of single automated camera solutions that will also provide a legacy for EuroHockey’s hosts.



The agreement will see Sportway provide a new dedicated EuroHockey-branded streaming website, (EuroHockeyTV). This will feature live and on-demand match coverage, integrated payment services, and connectivity with EuroHockey and Sportway&#8217;s official competition management system partner AltiusRT.



The agreement reflects both organisations&#8217; shared commitment to growing the sport and increasing engagement with our hockey communities throughout Europe.

This partnership with Sportway marks an important step in our digital transformation strategy and our vision to make hockey more accessible to fans across Europe.

The partnership will officially commence ahead of the 2027 season, with the rollout of new venue installations and streaming services taking place progressively throughout the agreement term.

EuroHockey and Sportway Partner to transform hockey streaming across Europe

EuroHockey continues to play an active role in the Erasmus+ funded Building European Safe Sport Together 2.0 (BESST 2.0) project, an innovative cross-sport initiative focused on strengthening awareness, education and prevention around unsafe sporting environments.



The project brings together experts from across Europe to explore how virtual reality (VR) technology can be used to support a culture of safe sport and empower athletes and those around them.



Building on the success of the original BESST project, BESST 2.0 addresses psychological transgressive behaviour in sport by developing an immersive VR learning experience.

Through realistic sport-based scenarios, participants are placed directly into situations that encourage them to recognise, understand and respond to behaviours that can negatively affect wellbeing and safety within sporting environments.



The intention is to help athletes, coaches and support personnel better identify behaviours that may otherwise become normalised within high-performance sporting settings.



Most recently, EuroHockey representative Gino Schilders joined project partners in Luxembourg to test the latest version of the VR experience.



During the meeting, participants were able to trial the immersive scenarios and provide feedback on their realism, educational effectiveness and emotional impact.



The testing phase marks an important step towards bringing the technology into practical use within the sporting community.



The project also continues to develop awareness and educational resources to support the broader safe sport message. New promotional materials and campaign assets have been created to help partners share updates, learnings and best practice throughout the project&#8217;s lifetime.



The campaign encourages sports organisations across Europe to actively engage in conversations about safeguarding and fostering respectful environments for all participants.



Looking ahead, BESST 2.0 is preparing for the rollout of the VR tool at a series of sporting events across Europe. Athletes, coaches, officials and supporters will have the opportunity to experience the scenarios for themselves and take part in workshops designed to promote understanding of safe sport principles.



The initiative is expected to feature at a number of EuroHockey events along with other major sporting events in the coming period.



For EuroHockey, the project reflects an ongoing commitment to ensuring that everyone involved in hockey can participate in a safe, respectful and supportive environment.

By combining innovative technology with practical education, BESST 2.0 is helping to create new ways of addressing safeguarding challenges and encouraging positive behavioural change across sport.



As the project progresses, EuroHockey will continue to share updates, insights and learning opportunities with the wider hockey community, highlighting the importance of safe sport and the role that every individual can play in creating a positive sporting culture.

“What you don’t see matters!” BESST 2.0 project enters VR testing phase

The group line-ups for EuroChamps27 have been confirmed following the conclusion of the FIH World Cup in Amstelveen and Wavre and confirmation of the latest world rankings.



Germany’s men will head up Pool A next year in London where they will meet Spain in a repeat of the World Cup final with hosts England completing the group.



Pool B has Pro League champions Belgium up against the Netherlands and France whose performances in August saw them overtake Ireland into Europe’s top six.



That leap is significant as all of the sides in Pool A and B are guaranteed a place in the quarter-finals.



Ireland, meanwhile, will battle it out in Pool C with Poland and Austria with only the winner of this three-team group advancing to the quarters. The scenario is the same for Pool D’s competitors Scotland, Wales and Italy.



On the women’s side, reigning European champions the Netherlands are grouped in Pool A&nbsp;with world number six Germany and seventh ranked England.



Belgium will be looking to build on their World Cup bronze; their Pool B challenge pits them against Spain and Ireland.



In Pool C, Scotland’s impressive World Cup wins over Ireland and New Zealand were not quite enough to break into the top six in Europe. As such, they will face Wales and Ukraine in the initial phase with a quarter-final spot on the line for the group winner.



France are the highest ranked nation in Pool D where they will play Italy and Austria who are making their first appearance at this level since 1991.



The full match schedule is currently being prepared and will be announced in the coming weeks.

EuroChamps27 group line-ups confirmed

Coaches from across Europe have successfully completed the latest editions of the EuroHockey Institute&#8217;s Coaches for Europe (C4E) and Top Coaches Programme (TCP), marking another important step in their development.



The Coaches for Europe programme was led by mentors Arseni Sañé (ESP), Shenarda Dedic (ENG) and Erik Wonink (NED), while participants in the Top Coaches Programme were guided by Michel Kinnen (BEL), Mark Bateman (ENG) and Siegfried Aikman (NED).



The first C4E seminar took place at Club Raffelberg in Duisburg in March, while TCP participants gathered for their opening seminar in January at Club Junior in Sant Cugat. EuroHockey extends its thanks to both clubs for their support in hosting the programmes.



Both programmes came together for their second seminar in Belgium during the FIH Hockey World Cup, providing participants with an opportunity to connect their learning with elite international competition.



Throughout the programme, C4E coaches focused on developing individual technical skills and tactical principles while TCP participants explored advanced tactical concepts, including how coaches can respond to and influence momentum shifts during matches.



As part of the World Cup experience, coaches also took part in a discussion with Spain national team head coaches Max Caldas and Carlos Garcia Cuenca who shared their insights on emerging trends and key learnings from the tournament.



Certificates were presented to graduating coaches by EuroHockey Board Member and Chair of the EuroHockey Coaching Committee Inez Cooper.



<h3 id="h-new-direct-application-route-opens-for-coaches" class="wp-block-heading">New Direct Application Route Opens for Coaches</h3>



EuroHockey has also announced a new direct application pathway for both the Coaches for Europe and Top Coaches Programme. Coaches can now apply directly to participate, alongside the existing nomination process through National Associations, broadening access to the Institute&#8217;s flagship coach development programmes.

EuroHockey coaches graduate from C4E and TCP as new application route opens

Germany became the first men&#8217;s team to win back-to-back FIH Hockey World Cup titles on two separate occasions by successfully defending their crown with a 1-0 victory over Spain in the final in Wavre today.



Michel Struthoff’s 44th minute goal was the defining moment, a lovely piece of opportunism as he picked up the ball on the left baseline, rounded the goalkeeper and slipped into the net.



It was one of precious few German opportunities in the second half as Spain made most of the forward movement and won a series of corners.



But they could find no way past the defences of Jean-Paul Danneberg who kept out two sharp backhand chances in the first half and then – along with his corner defensive team – was everything the Red Sticks threw at him.



Christopher Rühr was named Player of the Match and said afterwards his side were planning to celebrate all of next week: “[This means] much more than anything else. I think everyone said, ‘Ah, the Germans this year, nah, they won&#8217;t be there.’



“Everyone took it on the other teams, but we showed what we&#8217;re capable of and played an amazing German competition. It was unbelievably tough. I think Spain played a hell of a tournament.



“We always struggle against Spain. They are a tough side, and they played a really good game today, and we had the luckier end.”



Earlier in the day in the bronze medal playoff, Argentina beat the Netherlands 2-1 to reach the podium for only the second time in their history.



They overcame early Dutch dominance and began to build more momentum and struck first in the 41st&nbsp;minute. A powerful strike from the 23m line found an unmarked Tomas Domene in front of goal, whose deft one-handed deflection put Argentina 1-0 up – his 10th goal of the tournament.



Jorrit Croon was handed a 10-minute yellow card five minutes later after accidentally catching an Argentinian in the face with his stick.



&nbsp;But the Dutch rallied and capitalised on their second penalty corner of the match in the 49th&nbsp;minute, with Jip Janssen finding Floris Middendorp with the variation to knock in the equaliser.



The Netherlands had a goal disallowed for danger with seven minutes remaining and the Argentinians made the most of the let-off, with 41-year-old Matias Rey scoring from a penalty corner in the 59th&nbsp;minute after the initial shot was charged down.



In the closing ceremony, Spain’s Luis Calzado was named best goalkeeper, Justus Warweg was the JSW Rising Star and Domene was both top goalscorer and best player.

Struthoff magic sees Germany retain men’s World Cup crown

Argentina dethroned the Netherlands in a dramatic shoot-out to claim the women’s World Cup crown in the Wagener Stadium.



It ended the Dutch side’s incredible reign as champions encompassing the last three titles as the South American side held their nerve in the shoot-out having been in the ascendancy for much of the final.



The two sides were meeting in a women’s Hockey World Cup final for the fifth time and there was precious little between the teams in the first half.



Cristina Consentino made the one save of note from Pien Dicke before the Dutch went into the lead just before half-time from the game’s first penalty corner via Yibbi Jansen.



But the second half belonged primarily to Argentina who spent most of the game on the front foot.



Their corner routines, however, were mostly misfiring until six minutes from the end when María Granatto cleaned up a corner rebound to make it 1-1 and a shoot-out.



There, they raced into a 2-0 lead and stayed clear with Sofia Cairo clinching it 3-1 in the fourth round.



An elated Cristina Cosentino was named as Player of the Match and said afterwards: “I really have no words for this. We were looking forward to this moment… Holland is a really tough opponent, and we knew it was going to be like that. So it was like fight each ball and the goal will come, and then just have fun in the shootout.



“I think it was something the team was looking forward to two tournaments ago in the Olympics, in the other World Cup. I think we really deserve it. We were a really good team along all the tournament, and I&#8217;m really proud of the girls that were fighting with me in this tournament.”



Earlier, Belgium ended a 48-year wait for a World Cup medal with a gritty 1-0 victory over Australia in the bronze-medal playoff.



Player of the tournament Charlotte Englebert rocketing home the only goal into the bottom right corner in the 20th minute from a penalty corner.

Englebert was thrilled to finish on a high, saying afterwards: “If we saw how we played the semi-final, we knew we had it in us to win the bronze medal today, and we kind of made it not an option to lose today.



“I think that&#8217;s what we did. We played until the last second. It was not easy because we had one striker less, so we had to run more, but it was the last game of the tournament, so it was a tough game, but I&#8217;m really, really proud of the team.”



She was later honoured with the top player award while Yibbi Jansen won the Hero Top Scorer prize for her eight goals. Australia’s Jocelyn Bartram was named best goalkeeper and Zoe Diaz was the JSW Rising Star.



The awards presentation also featured a special honour for two-time FIH Player of the Year Xan de Waard who played in her final international match after a sparkling career.

Argentina end Dutch women’s World Cup reign as Belgium win bronze

José Basterra’s memorable hat trick saw Spain stun the Netherlands to reach the men’s World Cup final where they will meet defending champions Germany on Sunday.



Their 4-3 win over the Netherlands stunned the Wagener Stadium hosts and put them through to the final for the first time since 1998.



The game revolved around a run of three Spanish goals while the Dutch had Duco Telgenkamp in the sin-bin, stretching out a 4-1 lead in the final quarter. The Dutch fought back with two corner goals but were left just short in the final reckoning.



Earlier, Koen Bijen’s delightful chip from Telgenkamp’s assist had the Oranje 1-0 up at half-time but a beautiful touch from Basterra levelled the game in Q3.



But once the Dutch lost a player for 10-minutes, Spain took control with Basterra touching in another, Pepe Cunill fired in a corner goal and then Basterra netted a penalty stroke.



&nbsp;Spanish goalkeeper Luis Calzado was named Player of the Match and said afterwards: “When we scored the fourth goal, we knew that the match was not done. We needed to work more to take the path to the final, and I think that we did.



“We made some mistakes that we gave more opportunities to the Netherlands. But I’m really proud for the team, and really proud for me. &#8220;



Defending champions Germany booked their place in a second consecutive final with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Argentina. After the drama of the first semi-final, the second was a more cagey.



The first half was scoreless but came to life in Q3 when Justus Weigand added a bouncing deflection to Moritz Ludwig’s shot into the circle in the 33rd minute.



Tournament top scorer Tomi Domene equalised from a corner but the game was decided when Ludwig was again instrumental in the lead-up with Weigand volleying in from close range.



&nbsp;Earlier in Amsterdam, Australia secured fifth place with a 2-0 victory over England in a match interrupted by a thunderstorm at half-time.



In the playoff for seventh place, Belgium edged India 4-3 in a shootout after a dramatic 3-3 draw while Ireland were denied ninth by New Zealand in a 6-3 encounter.



France left it late but beat Japan 3-1 to secure 13th place and Wales finished in 15th place after a shootout victory over Malaysia.

Basterra brilliance sends Spain into men’s World Cup final with Germany

The venues for the 2027 EuroHockey Indoor U21 Championships have been confirmed with Gniezno, Poland set to host the women&#8217;s tournament while the men&#8217;s top tier will be in Sveti Ivan Zelina, Croatia and Championship II is in Alanya, Türkiye.

Gniezno, Sveti Ivan Zelina and Alanya to host U21 indoor championships in 2027 – UPDATE

The Netherlands and Argentina will meet in the FIH Hockey World Cup final on Saturday after 1-0 semi-final victories on Thursday.



The clash is a rematch four years in the making after the two sides met in the last World Cup final in 2022, where the Dutch prevailed.



For the Dutch, they came through a dramatic battle with Belgium, surviving a late disallowed goal to get over the line after a rousing performance from the Red Panthers.



In front of a packed Wagener Stadium, the Oranje took the lead in the first half after Marijn Veen broke through a tackle on halfway to set up a sharp attack which led to Frédérique Matla sweeping in a first time chance at the right post.



It stayed that way to the end despite the Belgians piling on the pressure in the closing phases. They thought they had scored the equaliser when a scorcher from 18-year-old Famke van Heel found the back of the net, but it was ruled out on review for obstruction.



It put the Dutch through to their eighth successive World Cup final with Xan de Waard saying afterwards: “I think it was a very hard-fought game. I think Belgium did a great job by putting us under a lot of pressure.



“But I think we defended really well until the last minute, so my emotions are very happy now.”



The second semi-final was similarly close with Julieta Jankunas getting the only goal for Argentina against Australia in a 1-0 win, adding the finishing touch in the 47th&nbsp;minute.



Earlier in the day, India&#8217;s women achieved their best result at the FIH Hockey World Cup since 1974 by securing fifth place with a 3-1 victory over Germany.



Spain took seventh place after a shootout victory over China with goalkeeper Clara Pérez outstanding in the final period and the extra attempts.



England claimed ninth place with a 3-1 win over the USA; &nbsp;Japan held off a late Scotland fightback to win 2-1 and finish in 11th&nbsp;place while twins Niamh and Michelle Carey combined to give Ireland a 1-0 win over South Africa and 13th place.
