Posted On 18/07/2021

Vienna, Sunday 18th July 2021, 12.30h, First whistle of a youth event again! Yes, we are playing. Great to see the ball rolling again and thanks to all teams, National Associations, hosts, volunteers, and Officials & Umpires to make this happen.

The event started with pool A match France-Italy. French player Arthur GOLLIOT became the top scorer of the match, netting 3 times (2 field goals and 1 PC). After his first goal, Italy equalized via Felix DIONISI, but Jules BOURNAC put France in front again just before the half-time whistle.

In the 3rd quarter, Arthur GOLLIOT scored via a drag flick, before his teammate Louis HAERTELMEYER made the gap 3 goals between both teams. In the last quarter, France made sure their goal difference went up by scoring another 2 field goals via the 2nd goal of Jules BOURNAC and the 3rd of Arthur GOLLIOT. A well-deserved win by France who is playing on Monday evening 19th July against the Czech Republic, who had a rest day on Sunday.

In match 2 Poland (whom, together with France, were relegated from the 2018 EuroHockey Championship in Santander) and Ukraine though out a fair battle on the blue turf. After several seconds in the match, Szymon CYPRYCH received the ball, made a nice turn, and scored 1-0. Only a few minutes later Dominik MAŁECKI extended the score with a field goal. A difficult start for Ukraine, but they came back stronger. At the end of the 2nd quarter, a PC was converted by Yaroslav BERHILEVYCH. This score remained the same until the 51st minute when Mateusz WIŚNIEWSKI doubled the score when he was left unmarked in front of goalie Bohdan TOVSTOLYTKIN. Ukraine tried their best, but each time was stopped by the strong Polish goalkeeper Dawid SKRZYPIEC. The final result was 4-1 as Filip GIECA scored the first Polish PC a few minutes before the end.

In the last game of the day, home nation Austria entered the pitch against Turkey. Turkey and Ukraine were the teams who got promoted in 2018 from the EuroHockey Championship III in Konya (TUR). It was a close contest between 2 good teams. In the 2nd quarter, Florian HACKL opened the score which was loudly cheered for by the home crowd.

Just after half-time, the match had to be suspended due to thunder and lightning. The match will be resumed on Monday 19 July at 17.00h CET.
