Match 5: Ukraine v Switzerland 5-1 (Pool B)
Switzerland struggled to repeat their game-winning performance from yesterday, going down 5-1 to Ukraine.
Ukraine dominated the game from the start, knowing that after their draw with Austria they needed a win to stay in contention for a semi-final slot.
OSHELENKO and SOLOMIANYI put Ukraine ahead 2-0 in the opening quarter. POPOV put them further ahead 3-0 in the 3rd quarter. HENGARTNER clawed one back for Switzerland (3-1) a minute later and set up the final quarter with a chance to get back into the game.
Switzerland couldn’t compete with the Ukraine forward line who consistently attacked the goal and were rewarded with two further goals via ONOFRIIUK in the 54th and KALINCHUK in the 55th added to the tally to deliver a huge win for Ukraine and a real chance for a semi-final slot.
Match 6: Austria v Scotland 2-1 (Pool B)
Austria had a narrow lead at the first interval as UHER put Austria ahead from a pc strike in the 4th minute. Scotland pressed hard in the second quarter to get back on level terms with a decent chance from a pc in the 20th minute which went just wide of the post. UNTERKIRCHER sent a perfect cross into KÖLBL who deflected it into the Scottish goal in the 24th minute. Scotland almost immediately earned a pc, but it was well defended by Austria. The game went into the break 2-0 ahead to Austria.
Austria held their lead going into the final quarter. Scotland had to go for it and started their comeback via a pc strike from WALKER to bring the score back to 2-1. Austria held their nerve and the win.
