Eight umpires will form the Umpire Development Programme Group 16 selection for 2023 and 2024.
The UDP programme will run over a two-year period with two seminars and a guaranteed EuroHockey appointment each year.
The two seminars for 2024 will take place at the Mason Cup in Denmark and the Euro Hockey League KO16. During these seminars, the group, lead by their mentors, will cover topics ranging from high performance psychology to an in-depth use of technological systems and will see guest speakers such as top coaches or players share their perspective.
“It is very encouraging for EuroHockey to see that there are so many young umpires in Europe who are looking to learn, improve and further their umpiring careers,” said Magda Nazaret, Chair of the EuroHockey Officials Committee.
The UDP offers a blended learning course combining online and face-to-face workshops. It is aimed at highly talented young umpires who show the potential to become international top-level umpires.
The programme content is bespoke to the individual and group needs, and mentoring is provided by EuroHockey trained educators. The mentors for this group will be Gabriele Schmitz (GER) and Pierre-Philippe Van Besien (BEL).
