Day 2 started with Pool B and a battle of the islands as Irealnd’s Railway Union took on England’s Buckingham champions. A solid defensive performance from Railway saw them converting their few chances and taking all 5 points on offer to lift them to 4th in the pool leading into the evening session. 2-0)
A much-improved performance from Rot Weiss Wettingen saw them score 3 against favourites Düsseldorf, but despite their best efforts, the Germans prevailed (7-3) to top the group going into their game v Racing.
Pool A got back underway with bottom-placed Slavia taking on Watsonians. A very even start as they exchanged a goal a piece early on in the game, and Slavia just edged ahead just before halftime. Slavia, in need of a win at this event, dug deep to get their first points and win (4-3).
The final game of the first session saw Sumchanka combining better than on day one, beating the hosts Gaziantep (7-4) and placing themselves second in the group at the break.
The afternoon session began with Pool A’s Railway Union taking on bottom-placed Rotweiss Wettingen, Rotweiss were the winners, a close game (2-1), which leaves both teams on 6 points. Railway Union have finished their pool games so will play tomorrow evening in the 9th/10th playoff.
The second game of Pool A saw the two top teams face each other as Racing looked to upset the favourites Düsseldorf. They went ahead via Duquense with an equaliser coming from Gravë and it took a penalty stroke from Brands to give the Germans the lead again. A strong finish from Düsseldorfer saw them win (9-1).
Complutense and Sumchanka played out a pulsating draw, keeping both teams’ chances of a semi-final slot alive (4-4)
In the final game of the day, Watsonians set out with the intent to spoil the party in Alanya going ahead via Dark in the 7th minute. Gaziantep equalised just before the first break. An intense second half in front of a roudy home crowd saw Gaziantep as the host put on a show and won the game (6-1)
With only Düsseldorf sure of their semi-final slot, All of tomorrow morning’s games have implications for who will join them in the semi-finals and who will be relegated to the Trophy division for 2025.
The final game tomorrow evening Railway Union v Watsonians will not be live streamed.
