During the EHF Executive Board meeting that took place (via video conference) on Saturday 31st October, the Board discussed all EuroHockey indoor competition matters at length, led by Walter Kapounek.
Due to the ongoing impact of COVID 19 all over Europe, the Board unanimously agreed to put the EuroHockey Indoor Junior Championships 2021 on hold.
15-17 January 2021 | Indoor Junior Championship, Men (ON HOLD) | Nymburk, CZE |
15-17 January 2021 | Indoor Junior Championship II, Men (ON HOLD) | Paredes, POR |
22-24 January 2021 | Indoor Junior Championship, Women (ON HOLD) | Lucerne, SUI |
22-24 January 2021 | Indoor Junior Championship II, Women (ON HOLD) | Sveti Ivan Zelina, CRO |
The EHF President, Marijke Fleuren said “We (the EHF Executive Board) are very disappointed for every player, coach, official, umpire, fan and volunteer that we had to make this decision to put the EuroHockey Indoor Junior Championships 2021 on hold.
As previously announced it was our intention to try and play as many events as possible, in the fairest way, even if not all the teams could travel.
However, given the worsening COVID19 situation around Europe at present, we took into consideration the safety of all involved and we wished to prevent a situation that individuals had to make the decision for themselves.
We debated cancelling or putting these events on hold, but in conjunction with our hosts, we believe that moving the events to December 2021 is a practical window to ensure that our U21 players get the opportunity to participate in the EuroHockey Junior Indoor Championships in 2021.
We will continue to work with our hosts and nations that have entered and will make a further announcement in due course.
Once again I take this opportunity to wish the whole European hockey family well. Please stay safe and I know that when we do gather to celebrate our EuroHockey events, there will be an added sense of pleasure for all of us, both on and off the court/pitch.”
