2021 EuroHockey Championships, match schedule is announced

Posted On 26/03/2021

The match schedule for the 2021 EuroHockey Championships (supported by Rabobank) has been announced today.

The competition will run from Friday, 4th June to Sunday 13th June with 40 top-class matches (men and women) taking place in the Wagener Stadium.

EHF President, Marijke Fleuren said “It seems fitting that the first EuroHockey Championship event after the prolonged forced absence will be played at the “Wembley” of hockey in the Wagener Stadium.

Whilst this will be a different event than we are used to, I like to pay tribute to the KNHB, our staff and all our partners who will deliver this event in the best possible way. I am sure, that all hockey lovers will enjoy it enormously!

We are very excited to see high standard matches and given all that is at stake (European Champions! along with World Cup direct qualification or a place in the World Cup Qualifiers later this year) we expect that every game will be a spectacle.”

The tournament will get underway on Friday, 4th June with the Men’s Pool B with Germany v Wales being the opening game followed by Netherlands v newly promoted France.

Men’s Pool A starts the day on Saturday 5th June with England taking on Russia and reigning Champions Belgium take on Spain (a repeat of the 2019 Final!)

The Women’s event will get underway on Saturday 5th June as 2019 Bronze Medalists, Spain, taking on Scotland and the final game of the day will be a repeat of the 2018 World Cup Final as the Dutch women take on Ireland.

The weekend ends with a 6 game programme on Sunday 6th June, ensuring that by Sunday evening all teams will have had at least one game.

The group stages continue on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and then on Thursday the top two in each group advance to the semi-finals while the bottom two go into Pool C.

The Men’s Final will be on Saturday 12th June at 13.00 hrs and the event will come to a close on 13th June with the Women’s Final at 13.00hrs.
