Two strikes in the first 10 minutes ultimately powered AH&BC Amsterdam to their second EHL Women’s title as they held off a huge Mannheimer HC battle to win the GRAND FINAL 2-1.
Freeke Moes scored the first goal just six minutes in, slotting home from close range. Ilse Kappelle provided the impetus, pushing the ball through to Fay van der Elst on the right baseline where she put the ball into the danger zone and Moes did the rest.
Four minutes later, van der Elst got the second goal with a deft touch from a smart penalty corner move. The angle was changed with a pass to Floor de Haan who whipped the ball back across the face of goal where van der Elst got the vital touch.
Mannheim grew into the contest as time wore on, cutting the hap in half in the 44th minute from a perfect corner routine, injector Charlotte Gerstenhöfer sweeping home with a powerful shot.
It made for a blockbuster finish with Mannheim throwing everything they could into attack but the Amsterdam defence – with Gabi Mösch to the fore – were impossible to break down again.
They held on to win their second EHL Women’s title while Teun de Nooijer also added another unique achievement to his list – the first time someone has won the EHL as both a player and a coach.
