Austria going for three in-a-row as Ukraine and Poland face epic rematch

Austria are one win away from a third successive boys U16 Hockey 5s title while the girls championship final will be a repeat of the 2024 decider between Ukraine and Poland.

In Championship II, Russia will play Belarus in both finals in Kutaisi.

Here’s the day three round-up of all the action:

EuroHockey 5s U16 Championship Boys 2026 (Alanya, Türkiye)

Austria moved a big step closer to a third successive boys Hockey 5s title as they set up a final date with Türkiye thanks to a 5-1 win over Ukraine.

All the goals came from Augustin Liebscher, transforming a 1-1 half-time scoreline into a healthy win with an incredible second half run.

The Turks, meanwhile, won a shoot-out against Croatia following a lively 4-4 draw in normal time in which Mustafa Demir got a hat trick. The Croats had led 2-0 and 3-2 before having to fight back late on to equalise but Türkiye held their nerve in the shoot-out 2-1.

It means Austria will face Türkiye on Saturday at 12.10pm (local time) for gold with Ukraine playing Croatia for bronze.

In the classification matches, Poland took fifth place overall after a 9-4 win over Bulgaria in the morning and a 7-6 shoot-out win over Switzerland after normal time ended 4-4. Denmark took seventh with a 9-4 win over the Bulgarians.

Russia and Belarus confirmed their place in Saturday’s final in contrasting styles as the former raced to an 11-1 win which saw them confirmed in the decider.

For Belarus, they scored a very late penalty stroke to nick a 3-3 draw against Armenia, denying the Armenians who had led at 1-0 and 2-1 as well as 3-2. But Matsvei Klyha broke their hearts with one of the last plays of a cracking contest.

Earlier, Armenia had given themselves a chance when beating Luxembourg 9-2; Luxembourg finished the day with a 4-3 win over Georgia to take a place in the bronze match.
