Behind the scenes – the unthink athlete experience

The Unthink Athlete Experience – in tandem with EuroHockey – came to life last Friday in Berlin with international athletes invited to explore what a career after their playing career could look like.

The Experience supports international athletes who have dual careers or as they make the sometimes challenging transition from elite sport to a world of work away from the pitch.

Led by three-time Olympian Janne Müller-Wieland and former professional rugby player Owen Waters, Unthink aims to unlock the powerful set of skills international athletes possess via unique experiences and inspiring workshops from groundbreaking organisations.

For the maiden experience, this group featured international players like Sebastien Dockier (Belgium), Róisín Upton (Ireland), Fabio Reinhard (Switzerland) and Kateřina Laciná (Czechia).

They took in three inspiring workshops from three organisations at different points in terms of the current scale and time on their journey.

They started at Coub Fitness, exploring Robert Halfmann’s prototype for a fully functioning home gym, a stylish but practical solution to working out at home. The group heard about the entrepreneur’s journey and evolution.

Next was a visit to Project A, an early-stage tech investor partnering with founders who challenge the status quo in their industries. Charlotte Niklas and Jannic Meyer provided their insights.

The day finished with an amazing view over Berlin at FGS Global, a worldwide strategic advisor for the stakeholder economy with expert know-how coming from Tim Efing, Sebastian Doedens and Jan …

Those visits augmented workshops throughout the day which sought to find the “ikigai” of these athletes from their future careers, a Japanese secret to a long and happy life, and how they can use their unique resources to define their plans.
