Copenhagen join finals party in Predanovci

EuroHockey Club Challenge I Men (Predanovci, Slovenia)

HC Copenhagen (pictured) nicked the last men’s EuroHockey Club Challenge I final place available as their big win over Furuset saw them join HAHK Mladost, Qormi and hosts Triglav Predanovci in the battle for gold.

A first half whirlwind from Teo Dabić propelled HAHK Mladost to a third successive win in Pool B and top seeding for their Monday final as they beat Épitök 6-2.

He scored a first half hat-trick as they built a 5-1 advantage before the break to put them out of sight of their Hungarian rivals.

That result opened the door for Copenhagen to get into the top two in the group and they duly took the opportunity with an 6-0 win over Norway’s Furuset. Four goals in the second quarter were the base of the result, those efforts shared between Tobias Grand, Daniel Portugal, Christian Møller and Frieder Voigt.

The day’s final encounter was the only match in Pool A which was to determine who advanced as first place in the group. Needing only a draw to do so, hosts Triglav Predanovci took an early lead against Qormi – on a high after their first ever win at this level a day earlier – via Domen Dšuban.

Tadej Mikola advanced the lead to 2-0 in Q3 but two strikes from Luke Bajada saw Qormi fight back in the last 20 minutes to earn a 2-2 draw.

Triglav, however, got the result they needed to stay in first place on seven points ahead of Qormi on goal difference.

It means Monday’s schedule starts with the ranking match between Olimpia Vinnitsa at 9am (CET) before the two finals get under way.

First is HAHK Mladost against Qormi at 11.15am and then the tournament concludes with Triglav Predanovci facing Copenhagen at 1.30pm.
