Croatian Solidarity through Great Governance project takes big step forward

EuroHockey Board Member Peter Elders and Head of Strategy and Development Tom Pedersen-Smith travelled to Zagreb earlier this month for the latest phase of the Solidarity through Great Governance (SGG) project.

SGG is a two-year pilot programme for developing organisational strategies of member national associations linked to their national Olympic committee and ministry of sport strategic objectives.

Supported by Erasmus+, the target is to create a pilot scheme to enable each participating nation build clear, costed and scheduled plans for their strategies.  

The latest phase has seen the participating bodies work together with EuroHockey to structure a model of training programme needs – from creation to delivery to implementation – in tandem with each national association’s stated goals.

From there, a comprehensive review of the national association’s ability to operate their strategies and its initial impact will be utilised to kickstart their own journey.

In Zagreb, Blueprint’s Phil Taylor joined Elders and Pedersen-Smith initially met with the Croatian Federation’s Slaven Zlatar (CHF Director), Renata Gregurek (CHF Executive Board) and Igor Capan (CHF General Secretary).

This group subsequently linked up with representatives from the Croatian Ministry of Tourism and Sport; Martina Jeričević, Head of Sport Systems and Health-Oriented Physical Exercise, Service for International Cooperation in Sport; and Kristijan Slačanac, Senior Adviser Specialist, Service for Sport Competition.

They also engaged with the Croatian national Olympic committee representatives Neven Šavora, Director of the Office of National Sports Federations Programmes; and Ante Ćosić, EU Funds and International Cooperation Manager.

Peter Elders said: “I know how hard the people work in Croatia for the future of hockey and I hope and trust that this plan and moreover the making of the plan will help them to open doors in their country and to structure their many plans and possibilities.

“It is very rewarding to see how EuroHockey with help of the European funds are helping in this process.  This is one of the many items that make Development within EuroHockey so great.“
