EuroHockey Executive Board Report, 22nd – 23rd September 2023, Brussels 

President’s Welcome 

The President, Marcos Hofmann, warmly welcomed everyone to the fifth Executive Board meeting of the year. The President welcomed our new Board members, Levi Van Hevere, Cathelijne Rockall, Bruno Santos, and Christos Sideridis. Marcos noted the busy summer competition schedule and was happy with how they were presented. 

He expressed his gratitude to all volunteers and staff, who made this happen.

The minutes of the June and August Board meeting were read and approved. 

Overview of Board and EuroHockey 

Tom Pedersen–Smith presented to the Board EuroHockey Operational Umbrella. Board members discussed how Operational Umbrella works from the Board, Committees, and staff point of view.  

Marcos Hofmann and Angus Kirkland presented to the Board an updated EuroHockey Committees and Panels structure which was approved in the meeting. Member National Associations will be informed regarding the EuroHockey Committees and Panels updates in mid-October when EuroHockey will also seek National Association nominations.  

Competitions Committee Indoor 

Walter Kapounek presented to the Board the Competitions Committee Indoor report which reflected updates on EuroHockey Indoor events in 2024 and 2025. 

Competitions Committee Outdoor 

Walter Kapounek presented to the Board the Competitions Committee Outdoor report following the recent Committee meeting on 16th September in Valencia.

The report reflected EuroHockey Outdoor events in 2023 and updates regarding EuroHockey Outdoor events in 2024 and 2025. The board approved the hosts for EHCQ 2024 and EuroHockey 5s 2024. 

FIH Update 

Marcos Hofmann updated the Board regarding FIH competition hosts and impressions from his meeting with FIH President Tayyab Ikram.

Angus Kirkland updated the Board on his attendance at the recent Continental Federation CEO and Joint Committees meeting in Lausanne earlier this month.  

Communications Report 

Siobhán Madeley and Gabriele Lemmle reported to the Board on highlights of 2023 covering: social media results, EuroHockey Championships, EuroHockeyTV, and upcoming events.  

So far EuroHockey together with hosts and all volunteers delivered 33 events (January – August 2023) Along with that in August the new EuroHockay brand, EuroHockey Institute, and Hockey Forest were officially launched.

Siobhán briefly updated the Board regarding the Digital Transformation project.

Upcoming steps – EHL promotion, website development, focus on Development “Telling stories”, Brand promotion, and upcoming indoor events promotion.  

Commercial report 

Jokko de Wit and Inez Cooper updated the Board commercial outcome of 2023 (January – August). Following this, Jokko presented EuroHockeyTV streaming requirements and different options for EuroHockey events and hosts.

The Board where shown the first EHTV+ highlights from the actual match which was uploaded on the Braxata HC website.

Focus until the end of the year is EHL partner activations, EuroHockey Business club growth, and clothing partner search.  

Officials and appointments report 

Magdalena Nazaret and Inez Cooper reported to the Board about U4N/U4E/UDP courses in Vienna, U4N/U4E/J4E in Breda, and the UM conference in Prague.

In these courses, EuroHockey had 60 participants from 18 members national association.

EuroHockey will continue to organise all education events as per above. Magdalena updated the Board about made appointments in 2023 and upcoming appointments in 2024. 

The Board had an open discussion about Video Umpiring. 

Coaching report 

Inez Cooper presented to the Board the ongoing TCP and C4E courses, the European Qualification Framework, FIH Academy, Nomination periods, and Solidarity Grants for the coaching pathway. 

Development report 

Marcos Hofmann reported to the board the reports after the Development Committee meeting on 21st September in Brussels, which covered EuroHockey Institute, EuroHockey Forest, Dry Turf hockey pitches, EuroHockey Portal, EuroHockey Youth Leadership Festival 2023, and the series of EU fundings and grants. 

Finance report 

Angus Kirkland and Levi Van Hevere reported to the Board YTD 31st July 2023 and Outlook 2023. 

Any other business 

The President thanked EuroHockey Executive Members for a great and fruitful meeting.  

The meeting ended at 12:00 on Saturday.
