Evolving Tartan Hearts able to draw on Robertson experience

Olympic bronze medalist Sarah Robertson will return to the Scottish women’s line-up for the EuroHockey Championships in Monchengladbach, following the announcement of their squad today.

She has been named in the panel as one of three changes from the side that played in the FIH Nations Cup in February with Robertson coming back in along with Jennifer Eadie and debuting Caterina Nelli.

It brings major experience to a side that has evolved significantly since 2023 with 10 players remaining from that vintage.

Since then, the likes of Surbiton’s Ellie Mackenzie, Ava Findlay and Nelli – who played in the Under-18 Championship two years ago – have emerged.

It’s been an action-packed year for the squad with 2025 beginning with a trip to Chile to compete in the Nations Cup where Scotland finished in fifth position clocking up victories over Japan, Canada and Korea.

The side qualified for the EuroHockey Championship with a home qualifier victory in Glasgow last summer.

Head Coach Chris Duncan said of the selection: “It has been a long year for the group, following the robust preparation period over winter for the Nations Cup.

“However, the bounce and enthusiasm that came as a result of our performances in Chile has carried through over the last few months, and I believe we have had great preparation for this competition.

“The team has continued to develop, and showed great hunger to continually develop our own style. There is no doubt that the EuroHockey Championships is a tough tournament, with opposition ranked 3, 7, and 8 in the world in our pool, but we are excited to test our ability against these teams.

“We look forward to the test, and the opportunity to show the hockey world what we are capable of.”

In terms of recent preparations, they had a series victory against Wales at Peffermill and then secured a win over an England Development team to continue momentum.

Scotland will play France at Peffermill on July 26 and 27 before jetting off to Germany.
