Hotsticks win through via vital field goal to join Toruń, Grammarians and Eagles in final party

EuroHockey Club Challenge II Men 2026 (Toruń, Poland) – day three round-up

Gary Bonnici’s 55th minute goal from Zurrieq Wolves Hotsticks may only have secured a losing bonus point for the Maltese club but it ended up being the defining moment of a remarkable Pool B at the men’s EuroHockey Club Challenge II in Toruń.

It made for a 2-1 win for Gibraltar’s Grammarians which confirmed their top spot in the group. But the drama was all about just below them with Bonnici’s goal leaving Hotsticks, Hungary’s Soroksári and HC Šiauliai all level on points and goal difference.

Further still, Hotsticks and Soroksári both had records of seven goals for and eight against, leaving the number of field goals as the defining factor to go in favour of the Maltese outfit.

It put them through to one of the two Sunday finals where they will play hosts HK Pomorzanin Toruń while Grammarians face a feisty battle with Gibraltar rivals Eagles.

The day began with Siauliai and Soroksári sharing a 1-1 draw with Tadas Pabijanskas cancelling out a first half Jacob Wiedmer goal.

Grammarians then confirmed their top spot with Jyan Duo and Ethan Balban putting them two clear of Hotsticks before Bonicci’s vital late goal.

In Pool A, Eagles withstood a late volley of corners from Swansea to get a 1-1 draw which was enough for them to go through to the final on goal difference.

Jake Joyce put the Swans ahead before Craig Bossano-Anes’s penalty stroke tied things up.

Pomorzanin completed their group stages with another resounding win, this time a 13-2 victory over Valhalla to end with three wins and a goal difference of +21.

Their final with Hotsticks is at 3.15pm (CET) after Grammarians face Eagles at 1pm. In the lower half of the competition, Soroksári play Valhalla at 8.30am and Swansea meet Siauliai at 10.45am.
