Lorenzoni and HC Olten celebrate women’s Challenge I success in Vienna

HF Lorenzoni Bra and HC Olten took the laurels in Vienna in contrasting fashion as the Italians won well over hosts WAC while the Swiss team went the distance against Racing Club de France in the women’s EuroHockey Club Challenge I.

Earlier, HAHK Mladost and IFK SumDPU finished their campaigns with victories to end in fifth place overall.

Final: HF Lorenzoni Bra v WAC 4-1

Pilar De Biase inspired HF Lorenzoni Bra as they secured a decisive 4-1 victory to deny home hosts WAC in Vienna, the tournament top scorer’s double in a key spell making the difference.

Lorenzoni Bra took the lead in the 10th minute with a field goal by Sabina Chiesa; the response was swift from WAC who equalized in the 16th minute with a field goal from Isabella Klausbruckner, her sixth goal of the tournament.

However, Bra quickly regained the lead with two goals by De Biase in the 18th and 21st minutes. The final goal came from a penalty corner by Lisa Di Blasi in the 35th minute, solidifying Lorenzoni Bra’s 4-1 victory.

Final: Racing Club de France v HC Olten 0-0 (Olten win shoot-out 3-2)

HC Olten held their nerve in a shoot-out to defeat Racing Club de France and win gold after a nailbiting final.The match ended in a 0-0 draw after regular time, leading to a shootout where HC Olten secured a 3-2 victory.

Both teams played strong defensively throughout the four quarters, with neither side able to break the deadlock. The game progressed to a shootout to determine the winner.

In the shootout, Racing Club de France’s captain Marie-Alice Pelletier-Rimbert and Fanny Raby successfully converted their attempts to give the French outfit a 2-0 lead after two grounds.

But Margaux Grunbaum, Marion Chalandon, and Anaëlle Lavaud-Galleron were denied by HC Olten’s goalkeeper Ursina Fazis, allowing the Swiss side a way back in.

Stephanie Weber, Leila Lysser, and Simona Senn missed their initial attempts, but Dunja Härtsch and Seline Grütter scored for 2-2 after five rounds before Härtsch netted the winning goal in sudden death.

This victory earned HC Olten the 1st place position in the tournament, while Racing Club de France finished in 3rd place.

5th/7th playoff: HAHK Mladost v Howardian Ladies HC 2-1

HAHK Mladost emerged victorious with a 2-1 win after a tightly contested match, earning fifth place overall with Welsh side Howardian ending seventh.

Mladost took an early lead in the 7th minute with a field goal by Dora Jelčić but the game remained in the melting pot as Howardian Ladies HC equalised in the 24th minute with a field goal from Dawn Mitchell. The game remained level until the 51st minute, when Ana Čolić scored a decisive penalty corner goal to secure the win for Mladost.

5th/7th playoff: IFK SumDPU v Lisbon Casuals HC 7-1

IFK SumDPU secured a dominant 7-1 victory over Lisbon Casuals HC, taking a share of fifth spot in their maiden European competition while the Portuguese end in a share of seventh.

SumDPU started strong with a field goal by Sofiia Basanets in the 2nd minute, followed by another field goal from Anna Shybchenko in the 9th minute. They extended their lead with a third field goal by Nadiia Korobkina in the 16th minute. Lisbon Casuals managed to score in the 27th minute with a field goal from Yanina Rojas, making it 3-1. SumDPU responded quickly with a penalty corner goal by Veronika Liapina in the 30th minute, and a field goal by Kateryna Oliinyk in the 35th minute, ending the third quarter at 5-1.

SumDPU continued their dominance in the final quarter with two more goals. Basanets scored her second field goal in the 48th minute, and Liapina added another field goal in the 49th minute, sealing the final score at 7-1.

This comprehensive victory secured IFK SumDPU the 5th place in the tournament, while Lisbon Casuals HC finished in 7th place.
