Women’s EuroHockey U21 Championship II-B (Vienna, Austria) – day three round-up
An amazing set of three Poland goals in four minutes saw them defeat Austria 4-1 in the only game of the day at the women’s EuroHockey U21 Championship II-B in Vienna.
It lifts the Poles to six points, level with Czechia, with each team now having played two matches while Austria are on three points.
After an end-to-end first quarter, Austrian goalkeeper Sofie Draxler was the first to be called on before her side came on strong in the latter part of the 15-minutes.
But barely had the whistle blown for the second quarter when Poland won possession in midfield and Hanna Wochna broke into the circle and fired the ball into the corner.
Oliwia Tujdowska got the next and it was 3-0 by the 19th minute when Natalia Bucher found the target to complete a breathtaking spell.
Austria fought back in the third quarter and made most of the play, pulling one back when they combined down the right for Pia Reisegger to reduce the gap.
But Poland affected another turnover to put Tujdowska in for her second goal of the contest. From there, they defended well to put themselves in strong contention for top spot.
Both sides will be on a rest day on Thursday where Türkiye face Switzerland at 11.15 (CEST) in the sole contest.
