Sagene complete historic debut while three sides remain in contention for men’s Challenge II title

Sagene completed their historic debut weekend for not just their club but also for Norwegian women’s hockey with gold in Porvoo, winning their final over Hungary’s BKGDSE FASOR 4-2.

It was not a final they had all their own way as the Hungarian club did take an early lead through Boglárka Györfi while Sagene also played the last 15 minutes with only five players due to a red card for Gabrielė Jakunčikovaitė.

The star striker had already scored a hat trick in the game to build a 3-1 lead but her second yellow of the game in the 26th minute made for a nervous endgame.

As it was, Aiste Kavaliauskiene sealded the deal with their fourth goal before Zsuzsanna Tóth pulled one back late in the contest.

Earlier in the day, Sagene formally confirmed their place in the final when they won a 5-4 thriller against BKGDSE-FASOR in the opening game of the day.

The Hungarian side held the lead at half-time and it was 4-4 until three minutes from the end when Gabrielė Jakunčikovaitė scored her fourth goal of the game.

FASOR won through to the final when they picked up an 8-3 win over Porvoo. Boglárka Györfi ensured they always had a healthy lead, scoring five of which three came in the first five minutes.

Sagene backed up their morning win with a 6-3 victory over Porvoo to enter the final in great shape, a momentum they carried through in style.
