Women’s EuroHockey U21 Championship preview – Scotland

Scotland’s women are competing in the top tier for just the second time since 2010 following their first place finish in Championship II-B in Konya in 2024.
And they have a strong sense of continuity running through their team with seven players remaining from that panel and 13 in situ from last December’s Junior World Cup in Chile.
The side is captained by Connie Roxburgh who made her senior international debut last week against Malaysia and was part of the wider panel for the World Cup qualifiers.
She continues with the armband having led the Scots to 17th and the inaugural Challenger Trophy at the Junior World Cup.

Ava Wadsworth is another to line out in that Malaysia series, scoring from a corner in her first international goal having debuted a year earlier in a friendly against France.
Mhairi Low has been the team’s go-to goalscorer, netting seven times across her 10 caps to date; she is hoping to enjoy an extra special week as she turns 21 on the final day in Valencia.
Their preparation has been reasonably extensive with a three-game series against England, games against the English Over-35 women’s team and they recently had a successful series against Ireland with two wins out of three.
There, Low was among the goalscorers along with Lexie MacMillan, Cara Falconer and Caterina Nelli.
On the coaching front, they have vast international know-how with head coach Gavin Byers and assistant Samantha Judge combining for over 350 senior caps.
