Poland and Czechia took the early initiative in Vienna with day one women’s EuroHockey U21 Championship II-B victories, seeing off Switzerland and Türkiye, respectively.
Twins Linda and Lucie Nová did the damage for Czechia with the former breaking the deadlock in the 21st minute against the Swiss. Lucie added the decisive second in Q3 for a 2-0 which confirmed the victory.

The Poles followed that up with a 5-1 success against the Turks to leave them on top of their table at this very early stage of the competition.
Jagoda Arciszewska led from the front with a goal in the 12th minute from their first penalty corner. Oliwia Krychiniak also scored from a set piece and Alicija Okarmus made it 3-0 at half-time.
Arciszewska and Okarmus added one more each in the third quarter before Nur Baran got the Turks on the scoreboard but too late to affect the outcome of the points.
Day two sees Czechia take on Türkiye at 15.30 (CEST) with hosts Austria entering the fray at 17.45 against Switzerland.
