Switzerland are back in the top division for the first time since 2002 and just their third appearance in the competition’s 50-year history thanks to their gold medal at Championship II-B in Lausanne in 2024.
It brought with it qualification for the Junior World Cup where they picked up wins over Oman and Chile in their opening two games before eventually finishing in 16th out of 24 nations.
This year, Jaïr Levie has a much changed line-up to work with 11 players making their debuts in this age category. As such, it will be important for leaders like Alessio Brunold, Victor Herzog and Léonard Kraxner to make their mark.
Kraxner – who plays with UHC Hamburg in the Bundesliga – is a key figure with seven goals in 17 caps to date. Along with Brunold, he played with the Swiss Under-21s when they were in Championship III in 2022 at the start of their journey to this tier.
He was joined in 2024 by Brunold, Herzog and Mattia Ribaudo and has since played for the senior national side 10 times with Maurizio Ribaudo and Cedrix Eichenberger, most recently at the Euro qualifiers in Rome.
The side also features several of the HC Olten side who played in the EHL last season in Barcelona. A trio of Rotweiss Wettingen representatives will play in ROUND1 in October in Eindhoven.
