Vanden Borre’s double earns Red Panthers a draw with Spain

Stephanie Vanden Borre’s double saw Belgium twice come back from a goal down to earn a 2-2 draw with Spain to leave both with one point after their first match of the competition.

Patricia Alvarez opened the scoring with a quite brilliant touch at the front post after Luciana Molina took a free quickly on the right, catching the defence off guard.

Stephanie Vanden Borre equalised before half-time from a low drag-flick after Ambre Ballenghien’s industry and stickwork earned the penalty corner.

Sara Barrios restored the lead in the 43rd minute, quickly latching onto a rising ball to shoot straight away after Marta Segu’s run created the chance.

Belgium, though, threw everything forward but missed out on a number of big chances before getting their chance from the penalty spot, an opportunity Vanden Borre took, to make it 2-2 with nine minutes left.
