Portugal availed of the services of Todd Williams last week for a masterclass in technique, tactics and technology, supported by a EuroHockey solidarity grant and the FIH Academy.
As part of the weekend at AD Lousada in Porto, he also assisted with a FIH Level I course at the same venue in tandem with Mario Almeida.
“It was a great weekend with a group of keen and thoughtful coaches from the Portuguese Hockey Federation, held at the excellent Lousada Sports Complex,” he said of the experience.
“Over two packed days, we worked through the FIH Foundation Coach course as well as taking time to look at various aspects of hockey technique, tactics and technology.
“It was wonderful to see how hockey is growing in Portugal and, on behalf of FIH Academy and EuroHockey, I’m especially grateful to Patrica Angelo of PHF for organising the event and to Hugo Santos and his excellent young players from AD Lousada who worked with us on both afternoons.
“And, to top it off, there was even time for a lunchtime Francesinha and enough space in my luggage for a bottle of Porto’s famous produce!”
