Women’s Challenge I finals stage set in Brzeziny after lively day three

EuroHockey Club Challenge I Women (Brzeziny, Poland)

Monday’s women’s EuroHockey Club Challenge I finals for promotion have been set following a lively day three in Brzeziny.

They will see IFK SumDPU play HAHK Mladost at 1pm (CET) and then Penarth take on the Polish hosts KS Hokej Start Brzeziny at 3.15pm.

In Pool A, Penarth fought back from 2-0 down at half-time to beat HAHK Mladost 3-2 and top the group with three wins from three.

Mladost had led 2-0 by the 11th minute via Dora Čavrak and Kaja Zimšek but Naomi Wilde, Amy Burton and Millicent Bushnell turned things around in Q3. The result assured both sides of a place in one of Monday’s two promotion finals.

Europa followed up with their first win of the competition as they won 3-1 against HC Luxembourg thanks to goals from Kate Gourley, Alexandra Casciaro and Rachel Houston.

In Pool B, Ukraine’s IFK SumDPU continued their good form with a 3-1 win over Orient Lyngby to confirm their place at the top of the table and well set for Monday’s final.

Tetiana Tetiavkina gave them a dream start with a first minute goal; Julia Galletti equalised before half-time but a second Tetiavkina goal and a late insurance strike from Alla Trypilska assured the five points.

It opened the door for KS Hokej Start Brzeziny to advance to the final if they could get a win over Copenhagen and they eventually made their pressure count to record a 4-0 victory.

The first came just moments before half-time via Eryka Shakh and captain Magdalena Pabiniak doubled up in Q3. The win was confirmed with two final quarter goals from Dziyana Varanovich.

Monday’s classification matches sees Orient Lyngby take on HC Luxembourg at 8.30am and then Europa play Copenhagen at 10.45am.
