A historic day in Alanya as Düsseldorf and Gaziantep make the final of the Club Cup

The first semi-final took place between Düsseldorfer who hasn’t dropped a point as yet here in Alanya and Sumchanka who have improved each game! Düsseldorfer prevailed 9-4, an exhilarating game which stretched the best from both teams.

The second semi-final didn’t disappoint! The hosts went ahead in the 12th minute and Racing took their time to edge their way into the game. Gaziantep went ahead again to bring the game to 2-0 and Racing moved up a gear to bring the game level in the 30th minute. In the final quarter, chasing teh game Racing went for a power play and was undone 7-2 in favour of the local team! It’s their first foray in this division so an outstanding achievement to get to the final.

Earlier today the 5th/8th playoffs and the 9th/10th placings took place. First up Rotweiss Wettingen took on Slavia Praha. The quick turnaround showed in the pace of the game as both teams were under pressure to perform. Slavia were the eventual winners and will now retain their position in this division. (1-3)

Complutense, who missed out the semi-finals by one point came back with a big win over Buckingham. (8-0) to rescue their position in the top division of European hockey for next year.

The final game of the day was a Celtic battle as Railway Union faced Watsonians in the 9th/10th playoff. A well-played game by both sides but it was the Scots who nipped the game at the end 3-2 to finish 9th and Railway Union.
