AHTC Wien land promotion as H&W and Cardiff & Met earn final spots

The final line-ups are beginning to take shape across the continent with AHTC Wien already landing promotion while Hampstead & Westminster and Cardiff & Met are also through to a medal match.

Women’s EuroHockey Club Trophy I – Rakovnik

Hampstead & Westminster confirmed their place in the final as Pool A winners courtesy of a comprehensive 5-0 win over SG Amsicora, making it two wins out of two.

They led 3-0 with a run of three goals in five minutes early on from Rose Tyan, Tyler Lench and Sofia Martin and stayed in control after that.

In Pool B, Watsonians are in pole position after they ran up a 6-0 win over Rotweiss Wettingen with Scottish international Sarah Jamieson scoring a first half hat trick.

They are on 10 points with Sunday opponents Cambrai on seven thanks to their 5-2 win over hosts HC 1972 Rakovník. They had trailed 1-0 with 27 minutes to go before Carolina Carrizo went goal crazy, scoring four times in a 15-minute spell.

The French side need a win over Watsonians to advance to the final while a draw will do the Scots.

Women’s EuroHockey Club Trophy II – Glasgow

AHTC Wien (pictured above by Edith Führing) secured early promotion from this event and a place in the final as they defeated Šiauliai Ginstrektė-Akademija 7-1. In a strong showing, Tessa von Velsen and captain Laura Kern put them two up in the first quarter before the Lithuanians replied via Donata Grigienė.

But the Austrians dominated the second half with Maria-Luisa Esser scored twice to ease to victory and top spot in Pool A.

In Pool B, Yohanna Lhopital continued her goalscoring ways with a hat trick to add to two goals on day one for Saint Germain, leading to a 5-1 win over WAC.

It leaves Saint Ger top ahead of their final group game against bottom side Swansea who fell 8-1 to Clydesdale Western. Clydesdale now meet WAC needing a draw to assure them of second spot while the Austrians need victory to overtake them.

Women’s EuroHockey Club Challenge I – Alanya

Cardiff & Met are the first table-toppers in Alanya as their narrow 1-0 win over Poland’s UKS Swarek Swarzędz assured they will play in one of Monday’s finals. Dawn Knight got the single goal to make it two wins from two and on 10 points, six clear of the chasers.

Gurop Desportivo do Viso are next best placed after a second successive draw, tying 0-0 with Gibraltar’s Europa. Both Europa and Swarek are on three points ahead of their Sunday match-up.

In Pool A, Alanya Stars entered the competition in strong form with early goals from Ayla Esen and Ventsislava Bosolova scoring in the first quarter of a 4-1 win over Ukraine’s IFK SumDPU.

It sends the Turks straight to the top of the group and if they avoid a heavy loss to Luxembourg, they will go through to a Monday final as group winners. IFK SumDPU have to wait to see whether they will also be in one of those finals depending on how the final group game plays out.
