AHTC Wien came back from behind twice to earn a shoot-out chance against Saint Germain en route to women’s EuroHockey Club Trophy II gold in Glasgow.
Their final ended 2-2 in normal time before the Austrians won the decider 2-0, taking top spot on the podium.
Saint Ger had taken the lead from a first half corner from Gabrielle Verrier but AHTC equalised in the second half from a great counter-attack which Maria Esser finished off.
Verrier capitalised on a defensive error to make it 2-1 toward the end of the second quarter but the Austrians started to create more chances as time went on.
And they got their reward via Laura Kern from a penalty stroke to make it 2-2. In the shoot-out, Fabienne Gnehm put in an outstanding performance, saving Saint Ger’s first four efforts while Kern and Katharina Proksch scored theirs.
Both sides earned promotion for their country as a result of their performances.
Hosts Clydesdale Western won bronze when they defeated HC Olten 4-1 with Millie Steiger’s goals being key.
WAC defeated Šiauliai Ginstrektė-Akademija 1-0 thanks to an Isabella Klausbruckner goal to finish in fifth place.
