Women’s EuroHockey U21 Championship II-A (Vienna, Austria)
Czechia will play in the 2028 EuroHockey U21 Championships for the first time since 2006 and in the Junior World Cup in 2027 for the first time ever after they completed their flawless campaign in Vienna.
They defeated Poland 1-0 to make it four wins from four, all without conceding a single goal as Lucie Nová’s single goal in the ninth minute made the difference.
Reflecting on the win, Linda Nová felt “we had the match under control. There were some mistakes but I think that we deserved to win the match. Roll on to the World Cup!”
Captain Linda Nedvědová added: “We’re of course incredibly happy that we won. Two years ago, it was really close so we’re even happier now.
“We knew that we’re strong in defence coming to the competiton, that was our biggest strength, I feel like we were quite confident also in offence, we had a lot of chances, it was often just unlucky that we did not score more. Sure it would be better if we scored more goals but, at the end, we scored enough to win and thats what matters.
“Its unbeliavable to qualify for the Euro 2028 and right now especially for the Junior World Cup because the majority of us are young enough to play that and we’re really looking forward to it. I’m really proud of all the girls, we wanted to play as a team and thats exactly what we did every single time.”
Austria completed the tournament with a 3-2 win over Türkiye; Amélie Minar, Josefine Riedl and Katharina Proksch built a three-goal lead which they held onto despite late goals from Sila Erkoç and Narin Yüksel.
