East Grinstead perfect Porto weekend as Start do enough for Polish promotion

East Grinstead completed a perfect weekend in Porto as their fifth win out of five assured them of top spot and promotion back to the EuroHockey Club Cup in 2026.

They got the best of Rotweiss Wettingen 5-1in the penultimate game of the tournament. After an early exchange of goals between Amelie Carter and Jessica Aebi, the English champions took control just before the end of Q1.

Biba Mills got the first of her hat trick of goals just before the first break and they were 3-1 up by half-time through Carlota Gomez. The 16-year-old Mills would later be confirmed as the tournament’s top goalscorer with 12 goals, including eight from play, two from corners and two strokes.

It left the odd scenario for KS Hokej Sport Brzeziny in their last game of needing to avoid a three-goal defeat to finish in second place while Scotland’s Watsonians needed a big win to jump up the rankings on goal difference.

In the end, the Polish club lost 2-0 but it was just about enough to see them celebrate with the Scots frustrated they could not win by more and ended in fourth overall.

Jessica Garden’s penalty stroke in the second quarter and an Emily Dark effort had Watsonians dreaming of the big result but they could not add further to their tally.

As such, the Poles got second overall thanks to the losing bonus point.

In Pool C, Milano Hockey Prato got a great 6-1 win over hosts Grupo Desportivo do Viso which ultimately assured Italy a place in the top level in 2026 while relegating Portugal.

Railway Union then got the result they needed to finish fifth overall, seeing off HAHK Mladost 4-1 which sees Croatia drop down to the Challenge I in 2026.
