EuroHockey decisions on participation of Russia and Belarus

The EuroHockey Executive Board fully endorses the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee on the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes and officials in international competitions.

The IOC recommendations have been made in order to protect the integrity of global sports competitions and for the safety of all participants.

As a consequence of the ongoing situation beyond the deadline imposed by EuroHockey, the EuroHockey Executive Board has decided to exclude the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes and officials from the events listed below:

1.       EuroHockey Indoor Championships 2024, Men & Women

2.       EuroHockey 5s U16 Championships 2024 Boys & Girls.

3.       EuroHockey 5s Championships 2024, Men & Women.

4.       EuroHockey U21 Championships 2024, Men & Women.

5.       EuroHockey (Pre-Qualifier) Championships 2024, Men & Women

The Executive Board has decided to advance the deadline to consider participation of Russian and Belarusian teams to 12 months in advance of the tournament to minimise the logistical impact on hosts and other participating teams.

This means:

  • EuroHockey will decide by March 10th, 2024, if their Indoor Under-21 teams will be allowed to play in March 2025
  • EuroHockey will decide by September 30th, 2024 if their Under-18 teams will be allowed to play in summer 2025,
  • EuroHockey will decide in September 30th, 2024 if their Senior teams will be allowed to play in summer 2025,
  • For indoor club events, teams from Russia and Belarus will only be allowed to participate in 2025 if, between now and 25th February 2024, they are allowed back in. This date has been brought forward from 1st April 2024 to the end date of the indoor club events in 2025
  • For outdoor club events, teams from Russia and Belarus will only be allowed to participate in 2025 if, in between now and 20th May 2024, they are allowed back in. This date has been brought forward from 31st July 2024 to the end date of the outdoor club events in 2024

EuroHockey sincerely regrets this sad and unfortunate situation for everyone and wants to stress again their hope the war in Ukraine is over soon.
