Ginstrektė and Pomorzanin land men’s Challenge II gold in Siauliai

Men’s EuroHockey Club Challenge II (Siauliai, Lithuania)

1st/3rd Place: Floriana Young Stars (MLT) – Šiauliai Ginstrektė-Akademija (LTU) 2-5

Goal machine Povilas Sinkevičius scored five times to propel Šiauliai Ginstrektė-Akademija (pictured above) to a first ever men’s European club gold as his side pulled clear of Malta’s Floriana Young Stars in the second half.

He set the ball rolling with his first just a minute into the contest, an effort counterd by Luke Borg Costanzi. Sinkevičius restored the lead in the 20th minute only for Ali Rizwan to tie it up moments later, making it 2-2 at half-time.

But the second half belonged to the Lithuanian team with Sinkevičius firing his side ahead in the 32nd minute and then gave his side glory with two more in the closing 10 minutes to the delights of the home crowd.

1st/3rd Place: KS Pomorzanin Torun (POL) – HC Luxembourg (LUX) 13-0

KS Pomorzanin Torun cruised to victory as the exertions of the weekend left Luxembourg short-handed and limited in their attempts to push the Polish side.

Michal Raciniewski got the first two of his four goals in the first half when Pomorzanin built a 4-0 half-time lead while a second half hat trick from Mateusz Zieleński ensured a comprehensive win for Torun.

5th/7th Place: Triglav Predanovci (SLO) – Roslagens IF (SWE) 3-2

Triglav Predanovci produced a brilliant second half comeback to defeat Sweden’s Roslagens 3-2 who ran out of legs after the big break. The Swedes had led 2-0 at half-time with Lucas Severstam and Dennis Haag on the mark.

But Nejc Potokar pulled one back in Q3 and the game was flipped around when Uroš Balažic and Alen Balaž scored in quick succession near the start of the fourth quarter.

5th/7th Place: Furuset LHK (NOR) – FHC Akademik Plus Sofia (BUL) 9-0

Furuset concluded their campaign on a high with a strong win over Bulgaria’s FHC Akademik Plus to win their playoff game. Nicolai Leege scored a hat trick in addition to a double from Sebastian Skaugvoll.
