International Survey Launched to Advance Support for Women in High Performance Hockey Coaching

A new international research survey examining the barriers and support systems for women in high‑performance hockey coaching – supported by EuroHockey and the International Hockey Federation (FIH) – has been officially launched, with participants from around the world invited to take part.

The study by Joy Jouret is titled “Barriers and Support Systems for Women in High‑Performance Hockey Coaching: A Quantitative Ecological Study on Career Intentions, Attrition and Identity Factors”, aims to develop a comprehensive, evidence‑based understanding of women’s pathways and experiences within elite coaching environments.

The project is led by former Belgian Red Panthers captain Joy Jouret and is supported by a EuroHockey Institute Academic Grant.

The outcomes from the survey will inform future strategies that enhance access, retention, and progression for women in high‑performance coaching roles across global field hockey.

By contributing to this research, participants will help shape a clearer understanding of the realities faced by women in high‑performance coaching and support the development of a more inclusive, sustainable future for hockey worldwide.

About the Survey

The online survey is open to women and who are currently coaching; have previously coached; or aspire to coach at high‑performance or elite levels of hockey. Drawing on validated psychological theories and measurement tools, the study explores key factors influencing coaching identity, career intentions, progression, and attrition.

Call for Participation

Women coaches from all regions, levels, and cultural contexts are encouraged to participate, ensuring the research reflects the diversity of experiences across international hockey.

Participants are also invited to share the survey with colleagues and networks to help amplify women’s voices across the sport. As a thank you for their time and contribution, all participants who complete the survey will receive a coupon code for 10% off all FIH Academy courses and workshops.
